Organizing Geography[edit]

There are numerous ways to try and organize geography into subfields as the discipline spans millennia, and has been developed independently by countless cultures. This is actually an incredibly contentious debate for anyone not aware.

To address this, I created categories for "branches of geography" and "the four traditions of geography." These are separate, but overlapping, ways to organize the discipline, and thus many fields may be in both. Currently, the "branches of geography" is based on the UNESCO organization. Ultimately, this was to satisfy many debates I could see for inclusion by giving respect to both perfectly legitimate thoughts.

These two methods created confusion at higher organization categories outside geography, so I have been folded into this one category, based on category:Subfields of geology.

If a field does not fit into either the branches of physical, human, or technical geography, or is not one of the four traditions, it can be placed into this category. This will probably not be super common. Other methods for organizing geography may exist as well (such as the National Geographic "themes" of geography, which do not yet have their own category), and can be categories within this broader category.
