OIOP Movement Mother Organisation Charitable Society

OIOP Movement Mother Organisation Charitable Society is an organization registered under the Societies Act 12 of 1955, one of its objectives being “equal justice” to all Senior Citizens of the Country.

According to the Report of the Technical Group on Population Projections for India and States 2011-2036, there are nearly 138 million elderly persons in India in 2021 (67 million males and 71 million females) and is further expected to increase by around 56 million elderly persons in 2031. Only a fraction of these people are getting pension, either Central or States. Majority of these people are Laborers, Farmers, Taxi Drivers, Skilled or Unskilled workers. Even though there are various schemes under Central and State Governments, the meager pension offered by these schemes are not enough to keep both ends meet.

This Movement stands for universal pension of minimum Rs.10,000/- per month to all Senior Citizens without any discrimination of work, cast, religion, status and sex. Why need pension for Senior Citizens: After a person's retirement, whether he was in government service or from private sector, his onward services to the nation would be more or less same. Irrespective of their past for which they were paid accordingly, they must be treated with same yard stick as both of them paid same percentage of taxes to the Government. All are paying taxes by way of purchasing goods, income tax, property & building tax etc. 30% of all Senior Citizens are below poverty line. 45% of them are sick or weak and under medication 10% are crippled and unable to walk 15% old aged people are destitute or tortured personnel in different manner.

Advantage by providing at least Rs.10,000/- as pension to Senior Citizens: This money will help him to buy food and medicine and thus it will scroll in the market and the local economy will improve considerably.

Kerala State was providing a Senior Citizens’ Pension of Rs.1600/- per month for last few years which of course is not enough to meet both ends for a Senior Citizen who has contributed for the development of our Country. Giving pension by the State of Kerala is halted for months resulting Senior Citizens absolutely no money to buy food and routine medicines.

During the Kerala Assembly Election in 2021 the LDF had declared a Social Welfare Pension of Rs.2500/- per month but this was not implemented. Now we understand that the State Government said in the Hon’ble High Court that Social Security Pensions are not statutory and it is only assistance. By this the Government is depriving the right of Senior Citizens even after collecting the Cess from the public on account of Social Welfare Pension. All citizens in India has been contributing their wealth, health, time and their soul right from birth till they become 60 and until their health permits. Moreover all are paying taxes to government by different ways and therefore the pension is an inheritance to all senior citizens. In no way can the Government declare pension as their generosity.
