Re:[edit]

Hey what's up? Well of course there's a reason that comes from my non-wiki life. Nothing is going well, and my neighbours are actually bringing me to court and the situation might worsen and send me to ruin... -- Davo88 19:04, 31 July 2007 (UTC) Maybe that apricot juice would do me good :) -- Davo88 19:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sper[edit]

I have no idea if Sper (Anatolia) or Sper (Armenia) is the right name, but please do not execute copy/paste moves. Please discuss the issue with Makalp at Talk:Sper (Anatolia) or take it to WP:RM if a move needs to be made. Thank you. --B 23:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Based on your statement, I've gone ahead and moved it ... but if for whatever reason it needs to be moved again, please don't copy/paste the text - that causes serious problems. That is what I was trying to fix - I have no interest in where the article is located, just that the history is associated with the article. If you are trying to move over top of a page that exists, you have to get an admin to do it (the target needs to be deleted before something can be moved over top of it), but it is important that it not be a copy/paste move. --B 01:17, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the speedy delete tag from that article. It asserts that he was the mayor of Baku, which is an assertion of notability. I'm not saying that he's notable, but speedy requires not even an assertion of notability. You may try to nominate the article at WP:AFD if you disagree. Carlossuarez46 04:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem![edit]

Don't worry about it :) - Fedayee 07:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah one more time and i'm protecting it. I gave him a nice welcome to Wikipedia, what more does he want? :P - Fedayee 03:58, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It has to do with our WPAM templates in our userpage. Someone from the Spanish wiki must've done something to interwiki it but I haven't figured out what's up. Even the WikiProject Armenia page has a problem with the interwikis. - Fedayee 07:05, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re[edit]

I understand, I figured you were probably stressed or what not. I didn't see their attacks myself, but I hope everyone can learn to calm down, especially with the second arbitration ongoing. Thank you very much for your note. :) --Golbez 21:10, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kings of Cilicia[edit]

Hello. Concerning a debate between me and User:Hetoum I recently (see it here), I would like your opinion concerning the renaming of articles on the Armenian kings of Cilicia from their long accepted titles to ones which Hetoum feels are more appropriate based on the Armenian language and on the best sources. I disagree at least with the use of Gosdantin and Levon over the English names Constantine and Leo. I also believe that the consistent enumeration which did not distinguish princes and kings was most useful. Thoughts? Srnec 05:31, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou. What is your reasoning for supporting the change in enumeration? And what is the reason for supporting Armenian versions of Greek/Latin names? I do not oppose Hetoum, Toros, Smpad, etc. as long as alternative verions appear in the article near the top, but Constantine and Leo are universally accepted English forms for the names of monarchs from far and wide whose native spellings are different. Wikipedian conventions demand Anglicisation where such are accepted scholarly practice, as for at least Constantine and Leo they are. Srnec 20:10, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The above named arbitration case in which you were named as a party has closed. The remedy is as follows: The remedies of revert limitations (formerly revert parole), including the limitation of 1 revert per week, civility supervision (formerly civility parole) and supervised editing (formerly probation) that were put in place at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan shall apply to any editor who edits articles which relate to Armenia-Azerbaijan and related ethnic conflicts in an aggressive point of view manner marked by incivility. Before any penalty is applied, a warning placed on the editor's user talk page by an administrator shall serve as notice to the user that these remedies apply to them.

AdilBaguirov[edit]

AdilBaguirovs website is also in the external links section of Azerbaijan. See here: [1] (its under Virtual Azerbaijan Republic). As AdilBaguirov is a banned user, his website should not be used as a source or as a link anywhere on Wikipedia.Hajji Piruz 16:46, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was in number of other pages I removed them all. VartanM 19:22, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, linking to the site is an editorial decision. That a Wikipedia editor is banned for behavioral reasons has nothing to do with whether we should link to their site as an editorial decision (I'm taking issue with the reasoning, not necessarily the decision itself to remove the link).--Chaser - T 23:19, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Teams" and wikipedia[edit]

VartanM, regarding this thread related to these comments, please note that there are no "teams" on Wikipedia. I realize that there are different groups surrounding these articles who share two different points of view, but off-site descriptions of a "team" don't effect the fact that here we edit as independent editors. That one editor has been banned indefinitely from the site does not mean that the ban tarnishes another editor. Atabek's ban is for four days, and then he is welcome to return to editing any and all articles on the site in the same civil and collegial manner expected of all of us.--Chaser - T 18:40, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please be much more courteous. Fred Bauder 20:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I fully understand your concern but I never ment to imply that there are teams here in Wikipedia. I was simmply refering to the copyright tag at Adilbaguirov's site.

Copyright (c) 1997-2004 by the Khojaly Massacre Commemoration Site. All Rights Reserved. Created by Adil Baguirov and the team, spin-off of Virtual Azerbaijan Republic (VAR).

Please note that Atabek himself admitted and took offense. --VartanM 20:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please, provide proofs/diffs where "Atabek himself admitted" to being a "team" member of AdilBaguirov, otherwise, be considered for yet another violation of WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL. Atabek 20:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Memorial and Human Rights passage in the first paragraph[edit]

I would recommend finding a place to put it that would be more appropriate than the first summary paragraph and justifying why you put it there in talk:Khojaly Massacre. Pocopocopocopoco 01:20, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

David Bek[edit]

May I ask you why you are reverting the David Bek page? The source says "Davit Bek and his allies destroyed the Turkic villages of Kapan and Meghri districts, slaughtering the Muslim population and loading the plunder on camels." Parishan 06:50, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are engaging in WP:OR when you say that the slaughtered Muslims were Turkic. The source says Muslim population not Turkic Muslim population. present the source as it is and let the reader decide if the population was Turkic or not. If you have nothing personal to say to me, lets discuss this in the articles talkpage so others can also see. VartanM 06:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, no. Did you even bother to read the last edit, or you just revert blindly? This was my last edit: [2] "...which led to the slaughter and expulsion of Muslims from the Turkic villages of the Kapan and Meghri districts of Eastern Armenia." Parishan 07:04, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Parishan, assume good faith, Yes I did see it and no I didn't blind revert, what you did was alter the quote to fit your POV which is OR. Did you by any chance missed my suggestion to discuss this matter in the appropriate talkpage? VartanM 07:45, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was assuming good faith. Your comment about the Turkic Muslims phrase had nothing to do with my last edit, so you kind of gave yourself away. Anyway, see Talk:David Bek. Parishan 07:53, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It had everything to do with your last edit. Alteration of the quote is to fit certain POV is OR. thats what my edit summary said. And my comment was regarding the 3 days of worth edit waring, which I don't know about you, but I didn't enjoyed. Anyways see the Talk:David Bek. VartanM 08:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The edit did not contain the phrase Turkic Muslims, which you have attacked, at all. How does that have "everything to do with my last edit"? And how was that alteration, if you just said on the talkpage that you were okay with it? Parishan 08:16, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its well past midnight here, so excuse me for thinking about something and writing about something else. Besides your message really suprised me. I don't get that many messages. VartanM 08:22, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incivility[edit]

Again, comments like "I am getting tired of your abrasive answers and misrepresentation of sources.[3] are uncivil. I'll be quite frank in telling you that editors are rarely blocked for isolated instances of incivility. However, incivility can be contribute to other sanctions, including applying this remedy. Tread carefully. I suggest that you redact the above portion of your previous comment as a show of good faith towards Atabek.--Chaser - T 06:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed both of the comments as a sign of AGF. I will also remove all of the partisan userboxes from my talkpage. My observation that Atabek is yet to assume good faith hasn't changed. And his harassing me as a result of his 4 day block. --VartanM 07:41, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't mean those. I meant just the quote above from Talk:Sahl Smbatean. Do you have specific diffs of harassment?--Chaser - T 07:45, 8 September 2007 (UTC) If you just meant his reports to the ArbCom enforcement noticeboard, I don't consider those harrassment.--Chaser - T 07:48, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember the remedies in the above arbitration case — if you continue to edit war on any pages,[4] you will be added to the 1 revert per-week probationary list. Let me know if the other side is also revert warring and the same warning (which is official) will be extended to them. El_C 20:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That article is very biased, every time I tried to NPOV the article it was reverted. A picture is being used as a source to accuse Armenians of destructing 3 monuments, which are siting in Baku museum backyard. Ehud Lesar which I suspect is banned AdilBaguirov has been edit warring in number of articles. Your warning is noted. --VartanM 21:02, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And I didn't edit war on that article so your warning is unjustified. I just wish a mediator could take a look a see how every time I tried to fix the NPOV I was reverted. And now I'm being accused of edit waring. I like the initiative, we need more administrators. Hopefully one in every article. --VartanM 21:24, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let me add that not enough admins even go near these sets of articles. It's best that out outline your evidence in a clear, concise, and well-documented manner. I am open to persuasion and consider myself to be, truly, neutral here (i.e. my ideological disposition is wholly unaffected by an affinity to either the Armenian or Azeri side). Thanks. El_C 21:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Which to say, either way, there are going to be innocent casualties, what I'm trying to do is minimize these as best I can; but order has to be kept. There are ~1,000 admins, there are millions of registered users and ips editing, there are tens of thousands account who edit on a regular basis. This set of articles has many tens of participants but only a handful of admins that even watch them. And the number of admins with even the most basic orientation into the pertinent national history here is, well, probably in the single-digits. El_C 22:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there aren't enough of us, so you'll have to make due with me & follow my instructions; or, feel free to request another admin on ANI. El_C 21:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, I've secured permission to unblock Andranikpasha provided I find a "responsible" mentor. El_C 21:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know nothing about her, I was only back-tracking an IP vandal. It was you that stated she was a fire creature in the first place, and I merely reverted to your edit. I thought the fire creature thing was odd, but I considered you would know best, as the article's creator. I wonder though, how you could say she was a fire creature earlier? Anyway, happy editing.--Atlan (talk) 22:24, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Language assistance needed[edit]

Hi Vartan, I'm trying to check out something with conflicting sources from a medieval Armenian manuscript. Basically I have two sources, one which says that the French translation is accurate, another that says it isn't. I don't read Armenian at all, so need someone more familiar with the language. Do you think that you might be able to assist? :) It's something that was written in the 1300s: "Chronique du Royaume de la Petite Armenie", Recueil des Historiens des Croisades, Documents Armeniens, Volume I, page 660. If you could come up with an English translation, I could check it against the French translation?  :) But if you don't have time (or it's some version of the language that's unreadable) I understand. --Elonka 00:02, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you very much for your assistance! That RHC page does seem a bit tricky to use. Can you get to this link?[5] If not, try this path:
  • Go to the crusades-encyclopedia.com site.[6]
  • Click on "Historiens Armeniens I"
  • Click on "Texte Seul" at the top
  • In the box that says "Aller Page", type "660"
  • Click "ok"
That should take you to the page with the Armenian. Or at least what I think is Armenian! :) It should say "660" and "CHRONIQUE" at the top, followed by Armenian text, followed by a French translation.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions? Also, are you on IMs? If so, that could be a faster way to communicate. I'm "elonka" on AIM and Gtalk. Best, --Elonka 02:22, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad. I have many uncreated articles in my watchlist so that is how I spotted it so fast. But then I worried that I jumped in too quickly and didn't want to step on any toes because I know new articles are a work in progress. The infobox probably needs some help, unsure how to put the Armenian flag in there. Again, let me know if I can be of any assistance any time at all. Nice to meet you. ♫ Cricket02 20:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. Of course, if you did have a different image to use, please change, no problem. The one I used is in Commons so it can be used in any project. ♫ Cricket02 20:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vartan regarding Moosh88[edit]

These guys as you see here [8] , are trying to get Moosh88 banned, and they are trying to say Moosh88 is me (Im Ararat Arev here man), Pleaes help out Mooosh by responding to these idiots User:Leoboudv and User:Thanatosimii , by telling them that Im (Ararat arev) not Moosh88 man. If you dont believe me that Im Ararat arev, look at those idiots discussions , and you will see they point out about my IP 76.xxx 75.xxx etc. 76.246.24.115 07:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moosh88 has been on wiki since 2005, if they do consider banning they must first prove that IP's were his. He has nothing to worry about if the IP's weren't his. You, on the other hand, were blocked from and shouldn't be leaving messages on my talkpage. That is of course, if you're really Ararat Arev. --VartanM 07:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vartan, this is Ararat arev, and tell those guys that Moosh88 has been here in Wikipedia way longer than me. Ive only been since December of last year, and I was banned shortly afterwards. The admins can do an IP check and locate him in a different state. 76.246.24.115 16:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ararat, you were indefinatly blocked from wikipedia for your disregard of wikipedia policies. And here you are, asking me to do the same. Please leave me and my talkpage out of this. VartanM 19:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

try to avoid copy-paste moves (WP:MOVE). If "Karahunj" is the more common name, try to establish this with some references, and then do the move properly. As far as I can gather, 'Karahunj' is the name of a nearby village, while 'Zorats Karer' is the name of the structure itself. The geographical coordinates are directly taken from the 2000 University of Munich archaeological survey. dab (𒁳) 09:23, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Armenian userboxes[edit]

Hi Vartan! One of my userboxes was deleted as its on Artaxiad's userpage. I asked an admin to restore it and he did, but Im afraid it might be deleted again. Is there any way to move that userbox to someplace safe? Thanks! Andranikpasha 10:52, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Armenian Genocide - Armeniapedia link being attacked[edit]

Folks, it seems the integrity of Armeniapedia as a valid source is under attack on the Armenian Genocide article. One Turk simply questioned it, and the very same day another user immediately removed it without any discussion. Now these 3 are preventing the reversion to add the link, which as I state there has possibly the largest collection of digital documents on the genocide. It's amazing to me, and I hope some of you are actually around to vouch for the site, as these folks don't seem to have actually even visited the site, or really care if it's of any value, instead asking irrelevant questions like, "what if there was a Turkopedia, would we include that??". Your input would be appreciated. --RaffiKojian 17:15, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
