Historic city names

Hi,

Can you please explain why Adana should keep historic names in the introduction while Thessaloniki shouldn't have a Turkish name? I also noticed that you obsessed with this topic from the past, like a "language warrior". Bbbatuuu (talk) 10:35, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Well, WP:NCGN applies here. See below:
Relevant foreign language names (one used by at least 10% of sources in the English language or that is used by a group of people which used to inhabit this geographical place) are permitted. Local official names should be listed before other alternate names if they differ from a widely accepted English name. Other relevant language names may appear in alphabetic order of their respective languages – i.e., (Estonian: Soome laht; Finnish: Suomenlahti; Russian: Финский залив, Finskiy zaliv; Swedish: Finska viken). Separate languages should be separated by semicolons.
Thessaloniki should have its Turkish and Ladino names to be fair, but people seem to not want to entertain that idea, and I'm not here to turn WP into a battleground with my limited amount of time. I assume some are unaware of the city's past demographics, or have similar reasons to mine. Uness232 (talk) 14:14, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
Uness232 (talk) 17:15, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
