September 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added such as to the page Taco do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 14:23, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on BVI Yacht Guide requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Conflict of interest[edit]

Please read WP:COI. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 14:26, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Smartish Pace[edit]

The article Smartish Pace has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable ("obscure") poetry journal. Fails general notability guidelines (see WP:NOTABILITY)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. I have nominated Smartish Pace, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Smartish Pace. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

I would like to help you[edit]

Hi User talk:Traciodea, I appreciate your contributions, but I am concerned for some of them. See, on wikipedia, articles must meet certain guidelines to remain on wikipedia, otherwise they are deleted. Independent reputable sources must exist about the article.

For example, an article about a website called dogeatdog.com would only be allowed on wikipedia if, say, the New York Times or wired magazine wrote about this website.

Also editors are concerned about conflicts of interest. I notice that you wrote an article about a website, and also have been posting links about this website. Unfortunately from what I have seen, this website is not reputable.

I apologize if editors did not discuss this with you first in detail before they deleted or removed your contributions. Unfortuanatly there is a lot of information that is put on wikipedia which shouldn't be here, so the messages tend to sometimes be impersonal.

I am here to help you.

If you have any questions about what you can or cannot do, I would be happy to help you. Please message me at this link:

Hi everyone. I'm really sorry about my problematic contributions. I am new to wiki, and I'm learning. I totally understand your concerns about my additions. I will delete those that I feel are irrelevant. I did go a little crazy yesterday, and it was mainly because I felt that there was a lot of valid, relevant material in the BVI Property Guide and BVI Yacht Guide that could be cited in wiki. I knew nothing about the COI classification, and I completely agree I overstepped my boundaries in some cases. Please keep reviewing my progress. I appreciate all the positive feedback I've received, and I will continue to contribute to wiki in a non-COI way. My apologies, again.

Don't worry - there is a lot to learn and a confusing mass of guidance - we try not to be too unwelcoming to newcomers. WP:SPAM#How not to be a spammer will show you why your edits caused alarm and have all been reverted; in fact the whole "SPAM" article of which that is a part is worth reading, as is the (rather long) list of What Wikipedia is not - most of the pitfalls newcomers fall into are explained there. One small piece of Wiki-technique: when you post on a talk page (but not in an article) it is helpful to end with four "tilde" characters ~~~~, which the system turns into a "signature" with your username and the time and date - like this: JohnCD (talk) 18:08, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was just being dumb and eager, and I realize I made grievous errors. I'll definitely read the SPAM article. I guess I was basing my inclusion of all our content based on the fact that when I use wiki, I always end up finding more detailed, related information on the reference pages, and I wanted to offer that same kind of information to readers of certain pages. And yeah, I went overboard. Traciodea (talk) 18:19, 10 September 2009 (UTC)traciodea[reply]
