References in Electoral Infoboxes[edit]

Hello, I saw you adding several references to infoboxes. Just an FYI that these are not generally considered necessary per WP:INFOBOXREF if the infobox is obvious (this would probably apply to the date) or cited elsewhere (turnout would be referenced in the results table). Cheers, Number 57 19:13, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips and comments :D RyanW1995 (talk) 05:13, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another tip – changes in percentages are presented as pp (percentage points) not % – you just changed the turnout change in the 1890 election from Decrease 5.91pp to Decrease 5.91%, which is incorrect. The swing figures in that infobox should also use pp not %. Cheers, Number 57 14:38, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So, if I'm not mistaken, it seems that in election infoboxes, the "%" symbol is generally used for the percentages/proportions of votes, while the "pp" (percentage points) sign is used for swing/changes in percentages. I often see many election infoboxes using the % signs for all percentages, including swing/changes in percentage points, so I don't really know which one to use. :)RyanW1995 (talk) 14:52, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's correct. Many editors have incorrectly used % instead of pp for swing figures, so do correct that if you see it. Cheers, Number 57 15:01, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to Articles on Other Wikis[edit]

Hello Ryan. Re edits like this, the preferred way to do it is like this. Doing it the latter way means:

  1. Readers can see they are being redirected to another language rather than surprisingly end up there
  2. Readers can see the English wiki is missing the article and may be encouraged to start the article on en.wiki
  3. A bot regularly checks these links and makes them direct links when an article is created on en.wiki (doing it the original way would retain the id.wiki link even if en.wiki had an article).

Cheers, Number 57 13:09, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can also do it for parties in the infobox like this. Cheers, Number 57 13:14, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Neveselbert. I noticed that you recently removed content from Bhumibol Adulyadej without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. 1994 South Africa Election Page[edit]

Hello, I’m75Million. I noticed removed updated photographs from 1994 South African general election without any explanation. I have reverted the images back to the color photographs but please provide some sort of explanation or feedback. Both images added were already in Wikimedia Commons and our both accurate to the historical figures in the election page.

The purpose of my edits is to ensure that color photographs are used to better represent the time the election took place. Black and white photos create the appearance that this occurred long ago which is not the case.

Thank you! 75Million (talk) 16:50, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@75Million: Thank you for your comments. I have modified your edits slightly (adjusted the image size) in the 1994 South African general election. I have also changed Mangosuthu Buthelezi's black and white photo in the 1999 South African general election with the newer color photograph. RyanW1995 (talk) 05:07, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much I appreciate that! 75Million (talk) 16:16, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
