Kings of Burgundy[edit]

Just to note that I created a disambiguation page Rudolph of Burgundy and stub articles Rudolph I, King of Burgundy, Rudolph II, King of Burgundy and Rudolph III, King of Burgundy a few weeks back and directed existing links into them - and expanded my article on Rudolph I earlier today without having realised that you had created different and fuller pages since. I don't know what Y2A did to upset you, and what you put on your userpage is your business in my opinion, but I think you can rise above it and not write personal attacks on it. At least in theory we are here to write an encyclopaedia, not engage in fighting, so maybe you'd consider removing the ugly comment and making your userpage a more positive reflection of what you're about. Middle Ages did not call younger members of royal families as princes and princesses[edit]

please check the ongoing discussion about "princess" title on Talk:Margaret of Connaught - it will have implications that many medieval women will soon get the courtesy prefix "princess" before their names in article names. ObRoy 21:40, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anush Tegin[edit]

Regarding your edit in Anush Tigin Gharchai:

I do not know where you see "Iranian pride" in that article (keeping aside the fact that User:Baristarim is trying to impose the modern Turkish name of the Khwarezm Shahs on the article, although it is totally irrelevant - that would rather qualify for Pan-Turkism), but your change leaves aside other opinions, such as the works of Buniyatov and Gosudarstvo (Khorezmshahov - Anushteginidov, original Russian tr.) who question Anush Tegin's Qipchaq or Qarluq origin. Though I agree with you that a Turkic origin is most likely (and has the better references in scholarly works, such as the Encyclopaedia Iranica), the name "Anush" which is clearly Zoroastrian (meaning "eternal") and is related to "Anushirvan" (" eternal soul", title of Khosrau I) does raise some questions: why was a Turkic slave of the 12th century in central Asia given a Zorostrian name?! The word "Tigin" is Turkic and means "prince" ... it was later added to his name.

Thanks for your reply. I usually go with authoritative scholarly sources, in this case with Encyclopaedia Iranica. Since it says that Anushtigin was a Turk, I won't object. As for Jalal ud-Din: the early Khwarizm Shahs may have had a Turkish look (meaning Mongoloid features), but their language was certainly Persian. Of course, many Central Asians of that time also knew Turkic tongues. But Arabic and Persian had a special status - these two languages were a mark of pride and reflected someones education and social status. That's the reason why Persian dialects in Central Asia are known as Dari which means "language of the kings".
As for Anush Tegin being a "Shah": no, he was not. He was only a governour who ruled in the name of Sultan Baykyaruq. After his death, his son Muhammad was appointed governour (to be precise: after Ekinchi) ... he became the first "Shah of Khwarizm" after the collapse of Seljuqid power in Central Asia.

Maps 'n' such[edit]

For the map you mentioned, I used the topographic maps located at Topographic_map#Global_1-kilometer_map (cutting and pasting them together using Windows Paint). Foot notes and page numbers[edit]

Hi. I've been editing a few of the articles you've created and I was wondering if you could add footnotes with page numbers to correspond with the text especially for new articles you create so it will be easier to verify the data. Some of the articles you have created are quite intersting and I am trying to figure out how and when it is prudent to add former country infoboxes which only apply to parts of the rule of the various families/dynasties. I sent that message after adding Template:nofootnote to Muzaffarids, something I do as a matter of course for seemingly well referenced articles without footnotes. Since it's difficult to tell when another user adds in material if that material is from one of your references or not (without going through the history edit by edit). When I looked at your newest article created I realized you hadn't given page numbers for that easier and--I know I haven't gone back and given page numbers for many of my old article creations (all of which are shorter than yours), but I know it's much easier to do it when you are writing the article so I figured I'd try to encourage that. User:Grenavitar/Muzaffarids is my example for you... it doesn't have nearly enough footnotes but... basically any statistic or fact that isn't readily known should be referenced like the spelling in Persian and the list of rulers if you copied them from a list in the book. The easiest things to reference are any dates or numbers like populations. This diff is my example of what to do... although, I only did the first paragraph... if you find a whole paragraph on a few consecutive pages then just add at the end of that paragraph. But, the main goal is that any fact checker will be able to go to the book and only have to search a few pages rather than the whole book for the material. As I said, it's unlikely that you'll go back to fix every article since that would take forever... but on any new articles references as much as you can can't hurt... and it's not too hard if you're doing it while you do the research. Buyids were originally Daylamite people, who were in the south of caspian sea. More over study this link which says that "Buyid control peaked during the reign (949–83) of Adud ad-Dawlah, who increased the dynasty’s territorial domain, adding Oman, Tabaristan, and Jorjan." (Tabaristan and Gorgan/Jorjan are in the south of the Caspian sea) I also checked in Persian sources and all were saying that the region at the south of caspian sea was under the control of Buyids.--Wayiran (talk) 13:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article can have 2 maps. one which is the shaded version of your map and the other which shows Buyids at their largest extent(during that 20 years, including ). Is it fine? The information from "The Cambridge History of Iran" had been added by someone else and not me. I didn't have chance to check it until today and you were right! The were not the Grand Vizier. At least it was not mentioned in that book. However, I don't get the reason for some of your recent edits! Sorry for disturbing you again and again, but can you please change the present buyid dynasty image to this one [2], but showing Fatimid caliphate in a different color and also hamdanid empire in a different color(If they are not iranian, I couldnt find the translation of hamdanids in persian, and I dont knkow they were Iranians or no, If it is Hamedanian then they are Iranian, as today also there is a state of hamedan in Iran), and color the remaining parts (except byzantine empire) in a different color and name all of them in that info table as Iranian states(instead of muslim states), which is including:

  • samanids(in many Iranian sources that I checked They are iranian persian speaking people)
  • saffarids(iranian)
  • Buyids(iranian)
  • ziarids(iranian)
  • justanids(iranian)
  • gilites(iranian)
  • sallarids(iranian)
  • shirvan(this one I'm not 100% sure, but probably they are azerbaijanian Iranians.)

Muhammad ibn Wasil[edit]

Thanks for your note regarding Muhammad ibn Wasil.

I've edited the article a bit - see what you think of my changes. I've disposed of the redirects, sometimes chosen spellings in accordance with WP article names, and tidied the punctuation and prose a tad.

I would suggest that the piece might benefit from the inclusion of some explanatory notes in the main text, rather than relying on wikilinks to impart the meaning to a reader who is unfamiliar with the language, the region and it's history and politics. Phrases like "the Saffarid amir of Sistan, Ya'qub ibn al-Layth" can be a bit heavy going if you have only a vague notion of what an amir is, and have never even heard of Sistan. I wasn't even sure where the name of the place ended - it could be the city of Sistan in the country of Ya'qub for all I know.

One word which I think should occur in the introduction is 'Iran' - I would have added it myself, but I'm not sure if it was Iran then.... I think maybe Persia?

I think the piece needs more section headings, or sub-headings - the section titled "Rule of Fars" covers a period when Muhammad ruled Fars, but also a period when he might or might not have controlled Fars, and a period when he certainly did not. The last paragraph should perhaps be called "Imprisonment and death". The circumstances of his death might not be known, but I'm pretty sure he is dead by now.

Hey Ro4444, I love your work on maps, VERY VERY BEAUTIFULLY done, I want to collaborate with you and work on 2 maps that you will certainer enjoy, one the post Seljuk decentralization with many puppet states, I want to emphasize the Islamic dis-unity, this map is in Arabic and of low quality I would love to translate it for you and you can make your "MAP" and secondly the Ayyubid map at it's highest extent I will give you a sort of blueprint the map we have on Wikipedia is a Grace, I think mentioning cities like Aleppo and Hims and Hama with many sub-Ayyubid dynasty ruled will be appreciable for the minds of historians and readers. I'm very interested in the way you work, I noticed your map have sort of the same outlook, today I was reading the Aq Qoyunlu wiki page I noticed the similarity of the map to th Buyid and Hamdanid and I knew someone was doing this so here I am, I just created this soleley to contact you and make more maps. I just went through the article; as usual, it's very well done. I don't think anyone can say anything negative about comprehensibility or sourcing. The only thing I noticed (and it's VERY a minor one) is that, in a few places, the prose is slightly confusing; for example, the first time I read it I thought Muhammad and his brother had killed both al-Jarjara'i and Ibn Hamdan, rather than the three of them coming together to kill the vizier. No problem. I just left a few miscellaneous comments in my sandbox. Like I said, these were pretty minor. There were a couple of other things that I didn't initially get the first time I read the article, but are grammatically correct; for example, I normally read "fled there" as "fled from there," but it can also mean "fled to there," as the context makes clear. I chalked those up as a failure on my part to understand the meaning, not a flaw with the wording itself. Ro4444 (talk) 16:15, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
