The term "peasant citadel" is not defined[edit]

I need some help regarding the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saschiz. It uses the expression "peasant citadel" and I can find no definition for the term.

As I understand it, during medieval European times, peasants were not allowed to have weapons of combat, and were certainly not allowed to be trained in their use. Hence, the notion of peasantry having a fortification of their own does not make sense to me. The term "peasant citadel" strikes me as an oxymoron (that is, two seemingly contradictory terms that appear together). I would like the term, peasant citadel defined for readers like myself who can find no clear way to understand it. Paledin (talk) 15:03, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
