Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Sign your messages with four tildes (~~~~), be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 04:15, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Battle of Suldouze. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:12, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Your edit to Battle of Charah has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from one or more pages into Battle of Charah. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:11, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Battle of Charah[edit]

Hello Meladjawdat,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Battle of Charah for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hello Firefangledfeathers,
May i ask which source did i copyright from exactly?
Sincerely Meladjawdat! Meladjawdat (talk) 10:01, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Meladjawat. Some content was copied from https://seaministries.org/ronsreflections/366-THE-FAITH-OF-AN-ASSYRIAN-PATRIARCH and more was copied from the book Assyrians and Two World Wars: Assyrians from 1914 to 1945. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:42, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Firefangledfeathers,
my sincerest apologies as i thought when using a article you have to copy most of it word by word, i hope you understand and i will definitely re-add the information but change the words up.
sincerely meladjawdat Meladjawdat (talk) 06:08, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Syriac-script names[edit]

Hi, can you please avoid adding Syrian-script names to modern-day subjects when we have no sources proving that the name is correct? Also, no official documents (IDs, passports, etc.) use Syriac in any country in the world, so this is a violation of WP:OR. Thanks, Nehme1499 11:44, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nehme1499, if Meladjawdat speaks and writes Syriac, then they are an authoritative source for names and words in those language and script. No sources are necessary. Elizium23 (talk) 08:09, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Elizium23, i am grateful for your words of support as i am someone who is a native Syriac speaker but is still new to wikipedia and don't know my way around some the rules. I just wanted many of our athletes and popular Assyrian figures to have their names in their native language shown. Meladjawdat (talk) 08:18, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds wonderful! Feel free to use WP:BABEL userboxes to indicate where your expertise lies. Elizium23 (talk) 08:26, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Meladjawdat! Your additions to Francis Shabo have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. /wiae /tlk 11:18, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

my apologies i will edit and make sure the article is free of any copyright material, is it fine if i use the sources you deleted but change the word's up. Meladjawdat (talk) 11:30, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, in general if you rephrase content from reliable sources in your own words, then that is a good solution. Thanks, /wiae /tlk 12:58, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Francis Shabo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.assyrianpolicy.org/justiceforfrancisshabo. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The article Youkhana Jajo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not enough in-depth coverage to show they pass WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
