Divisions[edit]

I'm not going to argue this, obviously, because it will all be irrelevant in six weeks, but if, as parliament is dissolved, "Gwydir is no more", and as such John Anderson is no longer a member of parliament, surely that would mean that all divisions would have to be changed so that their current members' terms end at 2007, regardless of their intentions to continue as the member, and then adjusted; in fact, terms would be listed "1901-1903, 1903-1904, 1904-1906 ..." and so on. I really do think that it is best to leave everything as it is until after the election. However, if you completely disagree with this, I suggest that you have a look at the article; it will need a few more changes if we are to say that it is truly defunct. It has been common practice among the other electorates not to change the members to "-2007" until the election is over so I would strongly argue for the retention of "-present", otherwise there would be no MPs - even John Howard would not be a member of parliament! OK. A few points:

1. Yes, now that the House of Representatives has been dissolved, all of its 150 members cease to be MPs. From the APH site:

41st Parliament: Members

The 41st Parliament was prorogued at 12 noon on Monday, 15 October 2007, and the House of Representatives dissolved at 12 noon on Wednesday, 17 October 2007. A general election for the House of Representatives and half of the Senate will be held on Saturday, 24 November 2007.

All seats in the House of Representatives for the 41st Parliament became vacant upon the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The information on these pages refers to the 41st Parliament.

So indeed, there are no current members of the House of Representatives since there is no current House of Representatives. We are between parliaments. John Howard remains Prime Minister, or at least caretaker Prime Minister, an office which is not strictly tied to parliament.

2. I will not be alterting the pages of the other 149 divisions at this point in time, for obvious reasons.

3. My understanding is that 1901-1906 is just shorthand for "1901-1903, 1903-1904, 1904-1906".

4. If the 2004 MPs were still current MPs then the Corio page would be altered to reflect Gavan O'Connor's changed party status.

And yes, the Gwydir text could do with a bit more updating.

Senate[edit]

The coalition has a one-seat majority. When Barnaby Joyce withdrew support over certain bills, Steve Fielding offered support, although Fielding by far didn't always agree with Liberal policy. The coalition has 39 seats in a 76 seat senate - a majority in parliament is not half, it is a majority. Timeshift 09:46, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found this by chance; you should have notified me if you were going to make an accusation.

Consequently, I did the obvious thing and inserted a speedy delete tag inside the article. However, within minutes this was removed by User:Random832. In doing so, Random832 failed to follow through the proper process of challenging a speedy deletion. Random832 offered only a vague explanation for this action in the edit summary.

And what, pray tell, is "the proper process of challenging a speedy deletion"? (nevermind that I was declining rather than challenging it) —Random832 19:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
