September 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Denzil Douglas may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living person, but that you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 22:55, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright material usage[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Disseminateit, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Roosevelt Skerrit has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. comment Thank you.

Warning Copyright violations[edit]

Copyright problem icon Your addition to Roosevelt Skerrit has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Note: on your edit on the page Roosevelt Skerrit you used the edit summary "No copyright violations in this version. The information is sourced from his Official biography". Using a text as a source means writing your own sentences and citing those sentences to the source. What you did is copying those sentences from the source, which is violating copyrights. Crispulop (talk) 10:30, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is no copyright violation. See the page referenced and it is clearly noted that Wikipedia has permission to use in full.

Hi Disseminateit. I am Diannaa and I am an administrator on this wiki. Releasing permission for Wikipedia to use the content is not adequate, as Wikipedia content needs to be available for re-use and re-publishing by anyone. Prose you add to Wikipedia must be released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License and preferably the GNU Free Documentation License as well. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for more information on this topic. I am also removing copyright material you added to the page on Denzil Douglas and Edmund Lawrence (governor-general). Please don't re-add the material. Also, since you have stated elsewhere that you are a public relations person (in your words, "reputation manager"), you should not be editing these articles at all, as you have a conflict of interest. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:53, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is unfortunate that you persist in allowing incomplete information to be published by non-official third parties about Roosevelt Skerrit. As per your recommendation, the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License has been posted at http://www.opm.gov.dm/?page_id=178. Please revert to previous edit.

Sorry but the 4.0 International License is not a compatible license. Please see Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright for a list of compatible licenses. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:00, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will check it out now and try to have this entry properly done. There is no desire to create anything bogus or biased. Thank you for the guidance thus far.

Block notice[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for copyright violations. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Diannaa (talk) 13:18, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disseminateit, I have blocked your account for copyright violations. The 4.0 International License is not a compatible license. The content is not suitable for the encyclopedia regardless, because it reads like a press release. Continually reverting to your preferred version of the article is called edit warring, and is against Wikipedia policy. Your account was blocked for these reasons. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:20, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
