Redirects

A redirect is a page that has the sole purpose to automatically redirect readers to a differently named page; to take the reader where they really wanted to go. Redirects allow a topic to have more than one title. Redirects are used for synonyms, abbreviations (initialisms), acronyms, accented terms (diacritics), misspellings, typos, nicknames (pseudonyms), scientific names, etc.

To create a redirect for the term "Oof":

  1. Type Oof in the search box, press ↵ Enter
  2. Click on the redlink for Oof that it presents
  3. In the edit window that appears, type #REDIRECT [[Foo]] on the first line to make it lead to the article Foo
  4. Redirects should be organized in to categories too. Each redirect can have up to seven redirect categories. Categories go on the third line of the redirect. (Note: Plant has a subcategory within the category of scientific name; enter plant after a pipe).

Here are two examples of a redirect category using a category template:

  • {{R from birth name}}
  • {{R from scientific name|plant}}

Preview your new redirect before saving it. Make sure:

  1. There is a big right-facing arrow to the left of the bolded name of your target page name.
  2. That your target page is bolded in blue (if it is red, go back and double check your target name in the edit window).
  3. That your redirect category has rendered properly and that the boilerplate it presents makes sense.
To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd}}

ESPN[edit]

If you're making the argument that ESPN cant be used for UFC fighters, we're going to have a TON of references to remove. Theres five on that Paulo Costa article alone. And for that matter, UFC.com wouldnt be considered independent either. Nswix (talk) 02:35, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nswix UFC is not an independent nor reliable source. We use UFC only when there is no other source can be used for info such as back then reach and stand for the fighter (now we can obtain almost all current UFC fighters' stand and reach from Tapology). We use UFC ranking for fighter as source and extremely limited fighter (direct info) of fighter bjj belt or other things. If we can find other sources to sub UFC source, pls do and highly encourage. ESPN is in contract with UFC and heavyly connected to each other for such make ESPN not independent for UFC and UFC fighter related pages. We dont use ESPN as sources and if the info can be found in ESPN, it always can be found in other MMA sites. (Note: ESPN used to buy content from Sherdog as back then they dont have they own reporters for MMA content and use Sherdog database until not long ago.) We can use extremely sparingly primary source when it is directly of the subject such as fighter's personal info or UFC ranking from UFC site (note: the UFC ranking is not ranked by UFc but by 21 MMA media which UFC records the outcome each week on their site instead on the respective MMA media sites). A question about vandalism[edit]

Let's say I think of a way to vandalise an article I find funny. Is there a way I could publish it in a good and safe way (see below for my thoughts on this)?

I used to plan to do it and undo it right after that. I even tried it once, although it happened to be something rather hard to undo and even harder to completely get rid of bad effects. However, now I realise that that may lead to bans if the rules don't care about immediate reversion. Maybe putting it on the talk page would be good, but I'm not sure. Sometimes I may want the vandalism to be not very noticeable, but still published in some form. Orisphera2 (talk) 23:14, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseywales1961, Orisphera2, and Liz: Looping Joseywales1961 and Liz as both of you have comments on Orispera2 edits. Good day Orisphera 2, I believe you find me via CVUA page which mentioned by Joseywales1961. First of all, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and not a social media site for info added/changed in the article needs to be supported by independent, reliable source for verification by the editor who makes the edit. So if you vandalize Wikipedia articles/pages, you will be warned and lead up to a block or ban in regardless of your reasons to do so. All edits are recorded permanently in Wikipedia and always can be viewed by anyone. I am surprised you would write to me to seek my advice if there is a way to vandalize Wikipedia that can go little notice even after you have been told you will be blocked if you continuing to do so. The answer is NO. If your intention is to vandalize Wikipedia for your own amusement, then I suggest you to stop editing immediately for you are not here to contribute to the project but instead have the intention to harm it. Cassiopeia talk 02:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What article do you mean by "the article"? Orisphera2 (talk) 14:42, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What's bad about making a change and immediately undoing it? Orisphera2 (talk) 14:42, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a social media I can use to share these? Orisphera2 (talk) 14:42, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My intention isn't to vandalise Wikipedia for my own amusement, but one of my intentions is to share some interesting ways it can be, without it ending up on the shown version for more than the minimum time needed for me to make and undo it. However, I'd like to make some non-vandaliatic changes, too. I don't think I know all of them in advance, but I think they're good. Orisphera2 (talk) 14:42, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Altberry65 (23:25, 14 May 2024)[edit]

I just finished edited a new page .How long does it usually take to hear if its acceptable for Wikipedia? --Altberry65 (talk) 23:25, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Altberry65, Good day and thank you for the question. I believe the new page you mentioned above is Draft:Al Berry. May I know are you Al Berry and if not what is the relation you have with Al Berry? Cassiopeia talk 23:49, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am Al Berry Altberry65 (talk) 23:57, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Altberry6, Thank you for the quick reply. First of all, for a subject to have a page/article in Wikipedia, the subject need to pass/meet WP:GNG or WP:MUSICBIO criteria. This means the subject needs to have significant coverage by independent, reliable sources, such as from the major newspapers or books, (all social medias, official websites are considered not reliable or independent and Wikipedia can NOT be the source) whereby the subject is talk about in length and in depth and not passing mentioned. Your draft page does not meet the criteria to have a page in Wikipedia at the moment. Secondly, you have conflict of interest to write the article since you are the subject yourself. Finally, the content of the any article in Wikipedia needs to meet neutral point of view and not promote the subject which is a huge violation of Wikipedia guidelines as Wikipedia is an encolpia and not a social platform. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 00:09, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
