Georgian dialects

Hi BigHaz. Many thanks for offering me your help. I’ll probably work on the geographic distribution of Georgian dialects. (They are dozen or so.:)) I’m afraid I won’t be able to go far into linguistic details. Anyway, I’ll try my best. Kind regards, KoberTalk 14:19, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

You're now an admin. Spend some time on the administrator's reading list, and don't hesitate to ask questions. Be conservative with the new tools, but at the same time dig in and help out with the backlogs as you get comfortable. Have fun with the new tools, and again, congrats. - Taxman Talk 14:29, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Well done. Enjoy! The Rambling Man 14:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations BigModestHaz. I hope you enjoy it, and you deserved much more votes than that. At least 200 IMHO. Anyway, enjoy Thursday night's Inspector Rex dosage. Oh and BTW, I feel rather humoured and have reinstated my userpage, now that I have become a famous cricket pundit. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:38, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't go using the word "pundit", just because it comes from the Indian languages in which you aren't fluent (and keep getting pestered about :P). So far so good with ye olde admin-ness. Is there a special kind of template I can add to people's pages which says "I've deleted your nn-bio", rather than the bog-standard "a tag has been placed on your nn-bio"? There must be, but I can't find the shortcut for it. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 00:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The junket is at User:Blnguyen. As for CSD, I don't bother telling people their attack pages and bog-ads have been deleted. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I am an Idiot!

Hey, listen, thanks for cleaning up my idiocy on the DYK. I am so stupid; I forgot Feb has only 28 days! Thanks for correcting my idiot, idiot mess up. Hoping I won't be as stupid ever again, Anonymous Dissident 08:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't mention it. I spend the first few days of every month writing the wrong date on forms and things, so I know where you're coming from. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 09:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes you are an idiot. Now why the hell did you delete the article on Pivot Stickfigure Animator?

Biography Nominations (copied from here)

G'day mate. Sorry to have to put my Admin Hat on so soon, but I'm just wondering what to make of the Prodding you've been doing recently. I can't quite follow what's going on at the moment, but you seem to have put some noses out of joint, so if you have the chance to let me know what's happening, I'd be very grateful. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 10:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Congradulations on your Adminship, to which I was happy to provide my support. Recently, I've gone through about 600 biographies as part of the biography assessment drive that I helped put together. For those biographical topics that have not been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject and of each other, I took a more detaied look. If the article further stood out among those lacking published work references and it seem unlikely that published work references probably were not available, I place a {{prod}} template on some of them, giving the failure to satisfy WP:NOTABILITY as the reason. My hope was to prod those interested in the topic to improve the article to address the concerns given as a reason for the proposed deletion. I've received two responses. The first editor provided some helpful suggestions on using prods and a second editor oddly took the issue to AfD. I've modified my PRODing based on the first editor's helpful suggestions and provided my reasoning to the second editor as part of the AfD. I looked on your talk page, but saw no mention of the recent prodding. Would you be so kind as to tell me how you came across this issue? Thanks. -- Jreferee 16:00, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I came across it by seeing Yves Pouliquen listed at AfD. A situation where the nominator "strongly disagrees with deletion" is obviously a bit unusual, so I thought I should investigate to see what was going on. Thanks for the explanation, though. I think I've got a better picture now than what was emerging last night (my time). BigHaz - Schreit mich an 21:50, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Albion(band)

You have just speedy deleted my article for non-notability whilst I was still in the process of stating my reasons for non deletion on the talk page, even though I clearly stated that the article was a work in progress and also added a hangon to the page. This band easily fulfills at least four of the criteria for Notability (music} Please restore the article and at least have the courtesy to allow me to finish what I started before you destroy it. Jud 22:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

The addition of a "hangon" template doesn't make an article immune from deletion. You're welcome to re-create the article with sources either in article space or as a subpage of your userpage and then move it into article space when you believe it's ready. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 22:37, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, I will do so. I would be grateful if you would allow me the time to actually complete fixing the links this time. Please see my reasons for non deletion which are now on the talk page. Jud 22:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I was still in the process of replying on the user page when you deleted the article!

I have now re-created it. Please do me the courtesy of actually reading it before speedy deleting, or at least give others the chance to comment. I see you have not been an admin for very long - perhaps I can persuade you not to be quite so enthusiastic with your trigger finger! I am surprised you have not heard of Alistair Griffin, he has been in the Australian press rather a lot these last few days Google search (oops)Jud 23:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

For the record, I had read the article before I deleted it, and I deemed the band non-notable per the information provided at the time. The re-created version of the article was also listed at CSD, although I'm unsure what became of it (I didn't touch it, as there were in fact arguments being made about the notability of the band in question). At best, I'd say this is really a line-ball decision. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 10:47, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't complaining that you hadn't read the original article, just that you hadn't allowed me any time to complete it properly. I was merely asking that you read the rewrite before deleting it again - unfortunately someone else decided to ignore the discussion and delete it anyway. Is there an award on offer for being the quickest speedy deleter? Anyway, I have now taken it to review . Jud 19:13, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Benjamin Parks Deleted

Why did you delete this article. the guy discovered GOLD!

When it's all verifiable, I won't delete him. The article I found, however, was essentially a joke. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 03:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA

Don't worry. It takes time getting used to being an administrator. Just go easy with the blocking, try to discourage new users from vandalism and you'll do just fine. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, odometer) 10:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the speedy on Lokolé. :) -Yupik 12:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. Thanks for having the right language skills (how on earth did you even get to learn Northern Sami anyway? I'm jealous!) BigHaz - Schreit mich an 12:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I got bored trying to learn Finnish and signed up for a class on North Sámi because it only had 6 cases. As most friends say, I'm twisted :) -Yupik 12:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
You sound like the kind of person I need to know offline, rather than here :P You're talking to someone who taught himself Dutch as a graduation present. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 12:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I was drooling over you being able to read Arabic script :D A feat I've never managed yet, although at some point in time I could read Tibetan with no prob (although I didn't necessarily know how to pronounce anything correctly!). Have you yet been to the Netherlands? It's rather weird to see how easy it is to understand Dutch when it's spoken, if you don't concentrate. But if I have to read it, it's not that easy! :D -Yupik 12:33, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Never been to the Netherlands when I was conscious (my parents took me there as an 18-month-old on a big trip, but it doesn't count for present purposes). If you're after a quick primer on the Arabic alphabet, try to get your hands on Awde and Samano's The Arabic Script (or a title like that). It should be a small, dirt-cheap paperback which looks like it won't teach you anything at all, but it works like whoa. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 13:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll definitely have to look for that book. I have on by Ayyad called Teach Yourself Arabic and it just never did it for me. My first contact with Dutch by the way was when my brother and I tried to learn it to annoy my mother, who knew German :D And if you ever saw my house, you'd never leave (you'd get lost in all the language books ;)). One of my fav people in the world was Gerald M. Browne, who wrote most of the stuff on Old Nubian that exists and a lot on Coptic. Class with him was a blast. He must have known 20+ languages and was a real character. In the middle of teaching us something about Old Nubian, he would experience some revelation about its grammar so comments like "This is just like in Classical Tibetan!" were rather commonplace. And he was the reason I ended up learning to translate Tibetan texts into English :D -Yupik 18:31, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

European Unioun Project

Do you think when you make new articles which relates to Europe tag the talk page with: {{European Union| class= Start| importance=Low}}. --Parker007 19:25, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I have requested a bot to tag all the articles with the category Eurovision. See bot requests for more information. Because its like a tedious task right? --Parker007 22:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Tagging anything's a tedious task, particularly when you realise that you've just written a series of articles that need tags. Still, there's a number of things I need to do to the song articles when I'm finished creating them, and if your bot isn't approved then tagging them thusly will be added to the list. Just remember, though, that there are more entrant countries than there are in the EU (Switzerland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, FYROM, Norway, Turkey, Iceland, Armenia, Israel and Georgia - and Yugoslavia, back when it existed - have all entered at least once, so just because an article is listed as being a Eurovision entry doesn't mean that it's from the EU). BigHaz - Schreit mich an 22:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Going a little off topic here I am really impressed with how different countries, with different languages, have joined together to form the European Union. What do you think? Any comments? --Parker007 22:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I can see the attraction, but the challenge will be how well they all work together. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 22:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Regarding my signature.

Thanks for the heads up about my signature. I removed about half of it, I'm not sure if there are any rules on WP about the size, though I like how it is. --RazorICE 04:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

The information is at WP:SIG, which basically says "keep it short" but doesn't actually give a hard-and-fast number of characters or anything like that. I've got no objection to the current length of your signature, for example, but someone else might. Thanks for fiddling it around, though. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 05:05, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

that redirect you just deleted, it wasn't a typo. You see the formatting of that article required redirect. I mean if you copy and paste the name of that article in the url it wont come to that article. Restore it. --Parker007 23:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

I may have totally misunderstood the comment, but I don't see that it's a particularly likely thing for someone to type. Additionally, if one copies and pastes the string of characters, it will link to the disease anyway. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 00:11, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: DYK

I know what you mean. About the images — look at the clear page template when in doubt. If it doesn't render correctly on the next update page and/or the preview, then there is something wrong. For the images, if "right" or "left" are added, then it renders incorrectly. Only the size description — 100x100px should follow the image name. — ERcheck (talk) 02:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
