Single Assignment

I saw that you reverted my changes on the Single Assignment thing because of lack of references. I agree. :D

We actually had a reference to the global variable part, the linked C presentation uses a global variable to show side effects and race conditions. However, I haven't found a good source to link about the mutable closures. I am writing a blog post on the subject, but I have no idea if it would be enough.

In any case, I think we should make clear that multiple assignments *may* cause side effects. The previous version (before our edits) was very assertive that it caused side effects and it was wrong.

My understanding is that an evaluation of expression does not have a side effect if it does not change an observable state of the machine. See Concepts in programming languages, by John C. Mitchell. Both global variable and mutable closures usage do appear to change the observable state of the machine by definition, though I'm not an expert on functional languages. Hi, can I know why I was reverted? Check my edits on talkpage, the last is in the history but not recorded. I am just attributing the wording to the document in question instead of making it as a fact, which it is not. There is an ongoing discussion about this already at the tal page. If you were unaware of this, you might want to self-revert. If you were aware (and although I personally don't have a problem with your edit) I think you may well be reverted/heavily critisized for making a bold edit in the middle of an ongoing discussion, where WP:BRD is clearly inapplicable. Agada I dont exacly understand what you mean by your comment in Stepanakert Airport page: I see an effort to find an agreed compromise wording for a fair attribution of Doc 12590. According to this warning here, which is apparently still in effect, Neftchi is not allowed to make more than a single revert on a page per day. Marshall has presented you with false information. I was placed under 1RR for 4 months on 21 December 2009. See here for proof, just search my name and you will see that I havent been under 1RR restrictions for more than a year. So Im not in violation of anything. Neftchi (talk) 19:17, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Dear Agada, I do regard this as a bad faith complaint by MarshallBagramyan because he either knew the exact duration of my 4 months 1RR parole or did not care to check the log.
