Welcome[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

Someone using this IP address, 84.144.76.192, removed content from the page All caps without giving an explanation. Please always provide an informative edit summary when removing content from pages. If 84.144.76.192 is a shared IP address and you did not do this, you may wish to consider getting a username to avoid confusion with other editors and further irrelevant notices.

Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes. This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Peaceray (talk) 00:57, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Peaceray. I noticed that you recently removed content from All caps without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Information icon Please don't change the format of dates, as you did to Georgia (U.S. state). As a general rule, if an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the dates should be left in the format they were originally written in, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic. Please also note that Wikipedia does not use ordinal suffixes (e.g., st, nd, th), articles, or leading zeros on dates.

For more information about how dates should be written on Wikipedia, please see this page.

Woah woah woah, what's with the overkill? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 14:51, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For the following reasons:
  1. After a disruptive editor has started disruptive editing again, this provides a quick glance for administrators to see the problem.
  2. I wanted to demonstrate to this editor that I have gone thought most of their edits. In this editor's case there were some acceptable edits.
  3. In a minority of cases, my tactic has been effective. In this case, the editor paused for three days. I have seen cases where an editor has stopped vandalizing altogether, which I believe is a preferable outcome to blocking.
I realize other editors may disagree with me & may designate this as spamming warning templates. I acknowledge that disagreement, but I fail to see any harm in my practice. Peaceray (talk) 16:13, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Peaceray: I see no direct correlation between an editor ceasing to edit and placing multiple warning templates, especially an IP user who is unlikely to know about the existence of a talk page; such behavior could be seen as biting the newcomers. Additionally, some editors don't check Wikipedia every day; some are likely to
Also, blocks are intended to get a user to stop vandalizing and encourage productive editing.
Administrators will of course check the contributions of any user, which doesn't take much time. Users might see the warning templates as excessive; the user probably knows that their "bad" edits have been reverted, or will believe so. Also, you say in a minority of cases. Perhaps your method isn't very effective then.
That's all I have to say for now. Rusty4321talk contribs 21:12, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To each his own. I once had a paramedic tell me that he only saved one patient with CPR, & that because of that one patient, he would always administrate CPR. If I can change one vandal out of a hundred into a productive editor, then I think it is worth it. I have met one prolific editor who confided that their first edit was as a vandal. Disruptive editing[edit]

So does User:Izno now want to add sources to wikipedia articles... please give me a break Here is one for William Ward Watkin page 299 https://books.google.de/books?id=CMwDEQAAQBAJ&pg=PA385&hl=de&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false --84.144.76.192 (talk) 08:22, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Normally we use the English version of Google Books, not the German.
I am confused as to which page that you mean, page 299 or the pg=PA385 that you linked to.
