Next to Myllykoski station is the Museum House Rauhala Inn.

'Museum Inn Rauhala' is Finland's oldest traditional inn still in operation. It is located in Kouvola. Rauhala Inn is a unique still functioning inn representing its own era [1]. It is also a living museum that operates in an original sheltered setting and a house built as a guest house. A resident of the inn can participate in and experience the authentic serene inn life of the 30s in the original milieu in person.

Tourist accommodation after the Great War[edit]

Rauhala's architecture has retained the functional design of the 1930s. According to the same type drawings, other guest houses were also built in Finnish settlements, usually close to railway stations, but most of these guest houses from the 1930s have already been demolished. Rauhala Inn was built next to Myllykoski railway station in 1934. It was built by Lilja, a paper master, who had previously established Rauhala guest houses for his wife in Suojärvi, Poroj. After the First World War, Rauhala became the most typical name of Finnish guest houses. [2]. The origin of the name comes from the post-Great War world, where the name of the modest inn boasted "Pax Inn" all the way to India.

Living museum[edit]

In addition to accommodation, the inn also serves as a living museum, offering the visitor a real touch of the 30s. The aim is to keep the inn in its original condition as much as possible and to restore it. There have once been commercial apartments on the ground floor of Rauhala, where e.g. Myllykoski hardware store, Myllykoski driving school and Kuvamo Helena. The locals recall how the children acted as messengers during the war, bringing messages to the staff officers of the headquarters fortification office in Rauhala from the fortification office, which was located in the premises of the nearby Myllykoski paper mill [6].

It has been selected for the Finland 100-project Our Kymenlaakso project, which presents 100 Kymenlaakso companies on the occasion of Finland's anniversary year [4]. Iltalehti has listed Rauhala as one of the most interesting accommodation places in Finland. This is clear from Riku Rantala's and Tunna Milonoff's recent Madventures Finland travel guide (Johnny Kniga) [9]. According to the guide, Guesthouse Rauhala is a classic entertainment center serving a century-old inn that exudes the atmosphere of the 1930s. Local students have been involved in the restoration work. The inn is preserved like a living museum, so an adventurer who appreciates history seeks the peace of Rauhala [10].
