November 2016[edit]

Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that in this edit to Gary Ablett Jr., you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Jim1138 (talk) 07:48, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
@Jim1138:, perhaps this is petty semantics, but Gary Ablett Jr. does not seem to share his father's middle name. Actually, I don't know if he has a middle name. If an individual does not have the same full name as their parent of the same gender, then they are not legally Jr. This does not affect how Gary Ablett Jr. is widely known (the consensus is with Jr.), just his legal name. The article title and infobox heading, etc., should retain Jr. as it seems that this is how he is generally known, but any reference to his legal name should not include the suffix. Not sure if this is codified anywhere, but it's mentioned at Suffix (name)#Generational titles. 110.142.225.47 (talk) 08:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is interesting. I checked a number of his references - at least six - and none used the "jr." suffix. If he shouldn't be called junior, then the article should be wp:moving a page/moved. I'll check some more. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:10, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The article appears to have been created as Gary Ablett Jr. and then moved to Gary Ablett, Jr. here.
Googling "Gary Ablett Jr." here does return a number of articles using "Jr." One reason may be to distinguish between the two Gary Abletts. As it is not clearly one way or the other, I don't know. You could start a wp:request for comment (RfC) about changing the name. You need to cite some source that says that he wants to be called a certain way. Here is somthing that talks about this: MOS:REGNAL Also, WP:SELFIDENTITY *might* apply. Jim1138 (talk) 08:22, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It is a confusing topic, I must admit. On his Wikipedia page, Gary Ablett Sr. is referred to in some parts of the article as Gary Robert Ablett and in others as Gary Ablett Sr. 110.142.225.47 (talk) 13:08, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"English names"[edit]

Hi, sorry I didn't answer message earlier. No, the pretty blonde one may have retired but there are still editors who would still feel the same about a ć on this person's name. All other bios, no problem, but not this one. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:09, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@In ictu oculi: I didn't notice, but Fyunck got Mónica Puig moved to Monica Puig in September. 110.142.225.47 (talk) 08:09, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits to User talk:ApprenticeFan while logged out. Making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. Wikipedia's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting. Note that the abusive use of multiple accounts or evasion of a blockage may result to you to have been blocked from editing Wikipedia. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. This is in regards to you changing your signature from an IP to your registered account, per this edit.
