The Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture is a constituent body of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. It was formed in 2021 from the merger of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Faculty of Art & Design and Faculty of Built Environment. The merger was announced on 13 July 2020 with the initial working title of UNSW Arts, Architecture and Design as a result of financial constraints brought about from the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] The new faculty took effect from 1 January the following year.[2]

The faculty includes six schools:[3]

  • School of Art & Design
  • School of the Arts & Media
  • School of Built Environment
  • School of Education
  • School of Humanities & Languages
  • School of Social Sciences

At the university's Kensington campus, the faculty occupies the Morven Brown and Robert Webster buildings, as well as parts of the John Goodsell Building, the west wing of The Red Centre and the Design Futures Lab of the Squarehouse.[4] The School of Art & Design occupies the university's Paddington Campus.

Research Centers[edit]

The faculty houses a number of research centers on the Paddington campus, including the National Facility for Human-Robot Interaction Research (HRI),[5] Creative Robotics Lab (CRL), EPICentre: Expanded Perception & Interaction Centre, Environmental Research Initiative for Art (ERIA)[6] and the 3D Visualisation Aesthetics Lab. It is also the home of the National Institute for Experimental Arts (NIEA).
