Personal Information[edit]

Cannon Hinnant was a five year old boy who lived in Wilson, North Carolina. He had two older sisters.

Murder[edit]

He died when he was shot at allegedly "point blank range" when he biked onto Sessoms' property[1] at 5:30 PM on day, August 9th, by his next door neighbor, Darius Sessoms.[2] At the time, he was playing outside with his two older sisters.[3] The motive for the murder is not yet known.[4]

Public Reaction[edit]

A GoFundMe page was created by his family, which, as of August 13th, 2020, has raised over $200,000. In addition, the hashtag "SayHisName" trended on Twitter[5][6] after a perceived lack of coverage by large media corporations such as "CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and MSNBC, as of Thursday morning [August 13th, 2020]"[7]

Family Reaction[edit]

As previously stated, a GoFundMe page was created by his family. Specifically, it was made by Gwen Hinnant. The purpose of the fundraiser was to "assist with anything that may be needed for expenses related to his services." His funeral occurred at 7 PM, August 13th, 2020.
