Joseph Watema, commonly known as Monténégro (/ˌmɒnt[invalid input: 'ɨ']ˈnɡr/ ), is a Ugandan singer-songwriter, poet, linguist, and most notably the front man of multicultural rock band, I'm a 7. Ironically, as though to deflect credit for the latter role, he has famously referred to Jian Zhang (the group's pianist) as ”front man Jian Zhang” during live gigs and interviews. As a co-founder and principal band member, Monténégro has imported influences from various genres of music including funk, blues, folk, and classical music; into the quartet's expansive brand of rock music. Consequently, he has served as a major creative force behind the act's increasing popularity,
