Mary Corner[edit]

Early life and Education.[edit]

Mary was educated at Beulah House High School, Balham,London where she was born in 1899.

She attended University of London and studied chemistry.

During her early life, Corner had an "unfortunate accident", and was burdened with a severe disability. She had more than usual share of suffering and trouble.

During the First world war she worked in a pharmacy.She then entered Battersea Polytechnic in 1922 and graduated five years later. She obtained a University of London B.Sc. in Chemistry at Battersea.

Later Life[edit]

Corner obtained a position with the British Cotton Industry Research Association Manchester in 1928, working initially in the rayon department where she developed a fascination with microanalysis.

As a result of her acquired background, she was promoted to Head if Mircoanalytical Section. Then in 1945, she obtained a similar post with the British Leather Manufacturers' Research Association.

Two years later, Corner was invited to become Head of the newly formed Mircoanalytical Section of the Chemical Research Laboratory(later than national chemical laboratory).

In the 1930's she became a founder member of the Mircochemical club.

Death[edit]

At the time of her death, she was vice chairman of the Microchemistry group of the soicety for analytical chemistry.
