The Rock of the Szeklers (Hungarian: Székelykő Romanian: Piatra Secuiului or Colții Trascăului) is a mountain in the Trascau mountain range, lying east of the village of Torocko.
The mountain's name can be traced back to the time of the Mongol invasion of Europe. The mountain and its surroundings were liberated from Mongol control by the Szekely people, who were then gifted the mountaintop castle, and its surroundings[1]
Due to the mountain's unique shape, in the nearby village of Torocko, the sun is said to rise twice. After rising, the sun is quickly covered by the 1129m tall Rock of the Szeklers, and then rises once more.[2] This peculiarity is mantioned in the Jókai Mór novel Egy az Isten.
The mountain is accessible by foot from the village of Torocko. The mountain's summit has spectacular view, and in clear weather, one can see as far as Torda.
The mountain can be climbed by following clearly identified hiking trails, without needing any particular special equipment or preparation. Starting from the main square of Torocko, the path up the mountain is marked with painted blue crosses.
