Since the dates given in the Annals of Connacht do not necessarily correspond with Anno Domini dating in this period, they are often cited as "s.a. 1230" (from the Latin sub anno, "under the year") rather than "A.D. 1230". An alternative method uses the year and the section in which the cited entry appears, so that the third entry under the year 1230 would be cited as "1230.3".
