Rename[edit]

This should be at Cheiropotamou monastery for consistency. InfernoXV 16:34, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In Greek, the first letter is a Xi not a Chi, so the current English spelling is correct. EdJohnston (talk) 14:40, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. The advice in WP:PRECISION shows that we sometimes use a commonly recognizable name even if it's not the shortest unambiguous one. EdJohnston (talk) 04:45, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Xeropotamou MonasteryXeropotamou – There is no other article titled "Xeropotamou" in Wikipedia. Current title is too precise (contrary to WP:PRECISION). Vanjagenije (talk) 22:41, 21 September 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 15:45, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment what is the WP:COMMONNAME? If it is commonly used with "Monastery" then it should remain as it is. -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 04:48, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Oppose Google results indicate the current spelling is the common name -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 04:48, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We are not talking about the spelling, but about the word "monastery" in the title. Vanjagenije (talk) 15:07, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We are talking about the spelling, since you wish to change the spelling by removing "Monastery", so it is exactly what WP:COMMONNAME is about. -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 05:17, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. It is consistently named "Xeropotamou Monastery", or more so "... Monastery of Xeropotamou" unless the context for the sentence is already concerning monasteries, or the place has just previously been named. In both English and Greek. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:26, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
