'SR' designation[edit]

Can someone please define what the 'SR" designation is by some of the names of the female players? Also, can someone explain why the last few players on the ladies side are well off the world rankings list? Thanks. RonSigPi (talk) 17:39, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I guess SR is acronym for Special Ranking. That is an entry ranking given to a player, who had a serious injury (and in case of women also maternity leave), based on his or her ranking before he/she was injured. If I recall the rules correctly, a player is eligible for special ranking if he/she was off the tour for at least 6 months, and the special ranking may be used to enter 8 tournaments within 9 months, whichever last earlier. Details may be a bit different for the ATP and WTA Tours, but this is at least a general idea... --Nitsansh (talk) 23:28, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too many players?[edit]

According to my calculation, there are 95 men and 88 women accepted to the tennis tournament... how is that possible, if the quota for each gender is 86???--Nitsansh (talk) 12:26, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sharapova is out of Olympics[edit]

Sharapova has justed announced she is out of olympics due to shoulder injury from the Rogers Cup —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.113.194 (talk) 21:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replacement players[edit]

My understanding is that players who replace other players in the direct acceptance list are considered direct acceptance as well, as shown in this list on ITF website [1][2]. Players are designated as alternates only in case of replacement after the draw is made.--Nitsansh (talk) 17:11, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
