Proposed merge with Pushpaka Brahmin[edit]

The two articles appear to be about the same subject Sitush (talk) 11:54, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

no. pushpaka brahmins include a variety of castes including pushpakas (pushpaka unnis), thiyyadis (thiyyattunnis), theyyampadis (brahmanis), nambeesans, kurukkal, puppalli, pilappalli etc. Pushpakar are only a subgroup in pushpaka brahmins --Padmanabhanunnips (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You removed the merge tag immediately after writing your comment above. Please give it some time, and do you have sources for your claim here? - Sitush (talk) 11:40, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a claim. These are the castes coming under Pushpakabrahmins. --Padmanabhanunnips (talk) 23:53, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps. Please read WP:V. - Sitush (talk) 00:59, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pushpaka was a term used to denote the class of temple servants who were associated with teaching of vedic texts, garland making, lamp works etc. in Kerala temples, specifically in South Kerala. Though the Caste name is Pushpaka, their surname is Unni. Sometimes, the caste name was also referred to as Unni. Further, one of the Thiyyadi Castes (who perform Bhadrakali Thiyyattu) also have the same surname Unni. Hence, to distinguish between these castes and to avoid confusion due to same surname, the terms Pushpakaunni and Thiyyattunnis were used. Sometimes, Nambeesans, a caste from North Kerala, were also treated as Pushpakas or Pushpakaunnis in South Kerala and vice versa as both the castes share similar duties in the temples. Anyway, the generic term Pushpakabrahmins comprises a number of brahmin-castes associated with temple services. In short, Pushpaka (or Pushpaka Unni) is simply a subset of Pushpakabrahmins. Pushpakabrahmins include a large number of other castes such as Nambeesans, Thiyyattunnis, Kurukkal etc. Thiyyattunnis are treated as Pushpakabrahmins, but, the thiyyadi nambiars, though ambalavasis, are not generally treated as Pushpakabrahmins. Due to these reasons, disagree with the proposed merging of articles. -Wikimankerala (talk) 13:03, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And again, please read WP:V. - Sitush (talk) 07:09, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All Pushpaka Brahmins are not Pushpakaunnis (Pushpakas). Pushpaka Brahmins include not only Pushpakaunnis but also Theeyattunni, Puppalikan (Puppalli) and Kurukkal. Merging is not possible : Damodarasarma (talk) 15:09, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Closing, given that there is no consensus, discussion is stale and both pages seem to be referenced so the case is unclear. Klbrain (talk) 05:00, 17 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
