Ashbourne reference[edit]

The sentence "He supported suppression of Lithuanian history and cultural heritage, replacing them with Soviet propaganda" is properly cited to Ashbourne's book Lithuania: the rebirth of a nation page 18. Direct qoute:

After Snieckus' death in 1974, he was replaced by another ardent Communist, Petras Griškevičius, who lived until 1987. He made no concessions to the unspoken demands of Lithuanians for restoration not only of their independence, but also their history and cultural heritage, which had been erased and replaced by Soviet propaganda.92

Reference 92 reads: This can be best exemplified by reading Maniusis, J. Soviet Lithuania, achievements and prospects Mintis Publishers, 1977.

Exactly same info is included in her PhD thesis which is available online at https://research-repository.st-andrews.ac.uk/handle/10023/14406

IP editor who first removed the source claimed that reference 92 points to article in The Financial Times that does not mention Griškevičius. That is plainly not correct (each chapter restarts reference numbering and there are more than one reference 92 in the book).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Ashborne's work. It is published by a reputable publisher based on successfully defended PhD thesis at a reputable university. Asbourne is a historian and their job is to read and interpret historical sources, including communist propaganda books, and to present their findings to the general public. That's exactly what's going on here and there is zero basis for removing the reference. Renata3 00:13, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
