Image[edit]

User:Newmantra, what exactly is the problem you think File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg has? We don't require permission of people for their images to be used on Wikipedia. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:46, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've uploaded another image. It seems fine, but please correct the image caption, since the image is clearly not from 2012. Please also understand that you're claiming that you were in Sydney and took the photo yourself. If another person is the author and granted permission to publish it, this must be declared on the image description page. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:53, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Newmantra, okay, I see that you attempted to start a deletion request at commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File talk:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg. However, the request was malformed and will have no effect unless the image page is tagged with the correct template. I'd point out, though, that your claimed reason, "This image is taken from the clip recorded by Prachatai without permission from Prachatai," is incorrect, as Prachatai has licensed the YouTube video under a Creative Commons licence, which means they already granted permission. I suggesting deleting the malformed request page. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:56, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note: commons:COM:PEOPLE does exist, and is a complex topic, but this needs to be discussed on Wikimedia Commons if it's allegedly an issue here. I have a feeling the proposed replacement by Newmantra may be more problematic in this regard. Knowingly giving a TV interview seems to have a much stronger implied consent for publication than giving a lecture indoors to a limited audience. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:58, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Paul_012 What is wrong with the photo I replaced? I deleted the previous photo for 2 reasons 1) I doubt the copyright of the image as it was taken from a vdo clip and 2) the photo is old. I owned the image to replace as I was in the room and took the photo myself. Newmantra (talk) 23:31, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I don't have a problem with Newmantra's replacement. Judging from the above-linked deletion request, it seems Newmantra was rather referring to permission from Prachatai (a misunderstanding given the YouTube CC licence) rather than the photograph subject. I don't think lecture hall would be considered a private place per commons:COM:PEOPLE, so I would agree with using the more recent image, unless ToBeFree or someone else objects. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:38, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, Paul_012 ~ ToBeFree (talk) 05:45, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
