If J.C. comes back by, don't turn this back into a fanpage for the Montoya's again and don't sign your name to articles. Also, a history of what Montoya's have done is probably not relevent unless it actually is directly related to the Family Montoya (which isn't like a big formalized clan or royal family as far as I know), it is sufficient to simply list the many Montoya's in the list of Montoya's and let people read their histories in their articles. I'm not even gonna bother rebuking the 6 months of people who have come to this article and edited it and saw no problem with "This page has been re-created by J. C. from braddock high. This page has created by a member of the of one the branches of the Montoya family tree, it has also been dedicated for any person that is conneted or that linked to the Montoya family/ klan.". Except for Escape Orbit who apparently isn't a robot who thought that having it said only once that Montoya was a Hispanic name is vandalism, idiot.

Name Variations[edit]

I think that the claim that all the variations cited are indeed the same name needs some serious backing up, or else be removed. The first four letters of each ("Mont") may be the same, but that doesn't mean anything because that only means "hill" in Spanish, so there are a myriad surnames that can be derived from this word independently. I seriously doubt that they are in fact related. El monty (talk) 12:45, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this supposed to be a DAB?[edit]

There is way, way too much stuff here for a DAB! It is supposed to be a quick navigational aid to help people get to the article they are looking for as rapidly as possible. Because of this I'll have to hack out the history of Montoya's, etc. Read this for Pete's sake WP:DAB. I'll include the history section here so you can add it to your Facebook page:

History
The Montoya name originally comes from a hamlet near Berantevilla in Álava, in the
Basque region of northern Spain.
During the Reconquista, it extended southwards throughout Castille and Andalusia.
The name roughly translates to mean hills and valleys.

No, it is not supposed to be just a DAB. It had the wrong template at the bottom. I have substituted it for the Surname template and restored the information. As you can see from other pages in Category:Surnames, it is common for them to include info about the origin of the surname.--El monty (talk) 14:19, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My father was born at the end of the 19th Century and when I asked him about the origin of our surname this is what he said. The name originated in Spain and it is the combination of to words. Ya Monto! He said as a past-time caballeros played relay games in which one rider mounted his horse and the person at the finish line hollered Monto Ya? These relay games took place in the meadows or pasturelands. Dmontoya (talk) 22:30, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

family history[edit]

I know it may not help much, but there is a legend as to the creation of the montoya family. Yes, it isn't a klan, nor is it royal family; however, the generations of Montoya's have been taught to take pride in the name, as well as stick close to anyone who bears the name. I can provide for you the legend if you would like. It would be an honor. I can even tell you as much as I know about our family history.

And one more thing. I am aware that there may be a literal translation of the name Montoya, but from generation to generation, the Montoya bloodline has been taught that the Name Montoya means "Guardian of the Pasture."

I am aware that there may be no chance whatsoever that any of my knowledge of my family may come to light on wikipedia, however, I would be remiss if I didn't try.

Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Montoya36 (talkcontribs) 02:13, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Las Hermanas Montoya[edit]

I just added the Las Hermanas Montoya article to the list so that it wouldn't be an orphan, but didn't know how to word it. Should I have added the names of each of the four members individually or is it better with just the name of the group? --Hatman1960 (talk) 05:37, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
