C&WJR locomotives[edit]

The list of C&WJR locomotives duplicates that on the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway page. Does anyone object if I delete this list from the Furness Railway page? Biscuittin (talk) 14:49, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Classification[edit]

The letter/number classifications ie A1 etc. were not official FR classifications, but were invented by A.C.W. Lowe, and became well-known within books written by R.W. Rush; in one of these we find:

There was no official classification of locomotives. There is, however, a classification in existence which has been more or less accepted, but this is believed to have been introduced by that eminent historian, the late A.C.W. Lowe. As this classification is very useful in sorting out the different types of locomotives from the very early days, it will be continued here, but it must be emphasised that it is not official.

Despite this, a number of authors such as H.C. Casserley and S.W. Johnston have used them as if they were official. I think we need to mention this. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:42, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
