Doringbaai.[edit]

It's not at -32.816444,18.232472 like portnet1991p20, williams1993p132, and sanavy2008 says; but 1 degree north at -31.816644,18.231522. Until someone can find a source to cite that's correct, I'm removing the coords. -- Jeandré, 2010-12-06t18:37z [donation needed]

NJR, do you have a ref for [1]? -- Jeandré, 2010-12-07t12:01z [donation needed]

Cape Point.[edit]

It's not at -32.356767,18.486667 like portnet1991p33 and williams1993p32 says; but 2 degrees south somewhere at -34.35,18.49. NJR ZA can you please check sanavy2008? I'm removing the wrong coord until a correct source can be cited. -- Jeandré, 2010-12-06t18:59z [donation needed]

Outstanding: this page is now more correct than the 2 lighthouse reference books at my library! -- Jeandré, 2010-12-07t11:48z [donation needed]

References for Admiralty light number?[edit]

If it's a single page we can put an inline ref in the header cell after a line break. If they're different pages we'll need inline footnotes for every row. -- Jeandré, 2010-12-07t11:48z [donation needed]

Seperate pages. I'll add refs tonight. --NJR_ZA (talk) 13:52, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References for M'bashe and Roman Rock coords?[edit]

M'bashe Point and Roman Rock. -- Jeandré, 2010-12-07t12:09z [donation needed]

First?[edit]

scully1915p249 says Mouille Point, but portnet1991p17 and williams1993p1 (emphatically) says Green Point Lighthouse, Cape Town. I think the latter is more reliable on this. -- Jeandré, 2010-12-07t20:05z [donation needed]

Lets get more facts and refs. It seems to be more complicated:
The first lighthouse in South Africa was built here in 1824, and acquired the 1st revolving light in 1865. It was electrified in 1929 and is the oldest active lighthouse in South Africa, although it is now known as Mouille Point lighthouse. (The original Mouille Point lighthouse was located in front of the battery at Pringle Bay but no longer exists) - [2]

This seems to describe the situation better, but I'd like to find the same in a more formal publication to use as a ref:
Many ships that anchored at Mouille point got themselves into trouble during winter storms and ended up on the rocks close to where the Green Point Lighthouse is today. Before the Green point Lighthouse was built there used to be another lighthouse a kilometre or two to the east of where the current lighthouse stands. It was known as the Mouille Point Lighthouse and those visiting the Hotel School in Granger Road can see the plaque that was laid on the lawns of the school where it used to stand.

OK, found the problem. The Green Point lighthouse is often and incorrectly referred to as Mouille Point Lighthouse due the the proximity of the two lights (around 2 km). Scully, William Charles (1915). A history of South Africa, from the earliest days to union. Longmans, Green and co. p. 249. got it wrong. The first light was indeed Green Point in 1824 with Mouille only being build in 1842. Mouille Point Ratepayers Association has a nice writeup. --NJR_ZA (talk) 06:23, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jesser Point coordinates[edit]

The longitude for Jesser Point seem to be wrong - unless it is actually located ten km inland! I think it should be 32°40′40.813″E rather than 32°33′40.813″E. - htonl (talk) 11:51, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
