I need help stamping these songs with dates that they were composed.

Artillerie lourde[edit]

The melody and chords of the "A" sections of this piece are identical to Erskine Hawkins' "Tuxedo Junction". The "B" section may have chords found in the "B" section of "Jersey Bounce" (I'd have to investigate further). Michael Dregni notes on p. 274 of his Django biography in note 164 that American tunes were re-titled during WWII in some cases because the occupying Nazis objected to American jazz music and suppressed or prohibited the release of recording of American tunes. At number 8 is "Blue Drag" which was composed by Josef Myrow in 1932. Django Reinhardt and Freddy Taylor both recorded versions of "Blue Drag" in 1935. "Gypsy without a song" is by Duke Ellington, by all accounts.

Suggestions for Organizing This Material[edit]

First - this music is jazz - not classical. So it should not become part of the Wiki Classical Music Project - instead it could go under the Jazz Project. Don't know how to do that - but maybe someone who knows can.

Second - The material at the end documents some of the songs referenced, and may have some value in terms of maintaing history of some of these songs. However it does not make sense for these notes to be on the list page. It should be in a separate section or page which would be the beginning of reference material on Django's music. Anyway - it shouldn't be deleted - it may be useful - but it should be moved somewhere. Again - don't know how to do that but perhaps someone else can?

Third - As an author suggested - putting composition dates or 'first played/recorded' dates on these tunes would be useful. Some of the songs also appear to have been played by Django - but not written by him. Perhaps this list could become a list of compositions played by Django Reinhardt, with the composer listed along with date written/first performed by him. With that kind of list - his compositions could be identified.

Hopefully I've not violated any talking rules here - this is my first post.
