Table[edit]

What do you think of a sortable table, adding language and duration, and if part of a vespers setting or for Evensong? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:33, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The table is certainly a convenient format. Language may be suggested by the piece's title. Duration would seem to be more specific to an audio or video recording, or perhaps to sheet music employing a Maelzel's Metronome reference, rather than a more descriptive tempo indication. Even so, inclusion of a ritardando would confound duration calculation from MM notation. Msramming (talk) 14:01, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rory Cooney's Canticle of the Turning[edit]

As an inexperienced editor, I'm struggling with the treatment of the table row I've added for Rory Cooney's The Canticle of the Turning. As a relatively recent composition, there are limited sources for citing. However, the piece doesn't seem like it should be excluded simply because it's modern or comes from popular culture. However, I'm wondering if it belongs here at all, since I'm realizing this page deals more with musical settings (which is this case was taken from a popular folk tune) rather than lyrical treatment. Can someone clarify what is meant here by "composer." Perhaps a better location for this information would be the main Magnificat article, in the "Society and politics" section, which might also be recast as a "Cultural references" section. WP:LISTPEOPLE guideline[edit]

Selection criteria[edit]

The WP:LISTPEOPLE guidance recommends to "document the list selection criteria on the talk page of the list". Any composer documented in reliable secondary sources to have composed a Magnificat is eligible for inclusion in this list as far as I'm concerned. The selection criteria should be documented on the talk page if it is more restrictive than WP:LISTPEOPLE: "In other cases, editors choose even more stringent requirements". This list is not a comprehensive list and cannot be exempted from the requirement that entries have evidence of group membership and notability. The redlinked entries currently have neither and must be removed. You admit that secondary sources are needed. Feel free to re-add entries to the list when you have secondary sources available.
