not a GP class[edit]

I consider it to be a wrong info that these were general-purpose ships. The GP classification requries not only the ability to fight air/sea/subsurface targets, but also to be well-capable in every of these roles. The Kortenaer class lacked an area air defence capability. Its air defence systems were only for self-defence, at most for defence of very nearby ships or ships behind the Kortenear class frigate (from the point of view of the incoming missile or aircraft). I remember that this class is usually being called an ASW class (anti-submarine warfare) instead. Lastdingo (talk) 13:32, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
