Does an Captain in the Irish Defence Forces under rank a Nato Captain ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.100.41.19 (talk) 22:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For example. An Irish Captain ranks OF 2. However, an American Captain has a NATO paygrade of O3. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.100.41.19 (talk) 22:37, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge_discussion[edit]

This article is closely related to the (similarly empty) Irish Army enlisted rank insignia. Any information that might be added to one seems likely to be relevant to both, and at this juncture nothing is gained by having separate articles. Darker Dreams (talk) 05:26, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be against merging, unless we merge every single country that has separate pages for enlisted and officer ranks, such as the UK. LaSeandre (talk) 13:56, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We don't have to treat every page the same. I'm merging. Once we have more content, a re-split may be justified. Ego White Tray (talk) 02:39, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I went one extra step and merged this to Irish Army. There was already a list of ranks on Irish Army and it seemed a bit silly to have two lists -- one with the insignia and one without. Therefore, I moved the rank insignia onto the Irish Army page and redirected this page and the previous pages to there. There's quite a bit of precedent to this as well. Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Spain, Turkey, and a few others do it the same way. Niamh (talk) 19:57, 29 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merged article into DF rank insignia[edit]

I seen that there was a dedicated IAC rank insignia page but none for Irish Naval Service and Irish Army. There had been one for Irish Army but it was redirected and merged three years ago. Now I had planned on creating three distinct rank insignia articles for all three DF branches (and had gone ahead and created one for the Irish Naval Service) but it didn't really make much sense when the content wasn't any different. Creating three separate rank insignia article pages that duplicated existing content on the main article pages simply wasn't justified. But I still felt a separate article for Irish military rank insignia should exist, especially if only to include in the 'Military ranks and insignia by country' template. So therefore I created a new article page Irish Defence Forces rank insignia that the existing three rank insignia template data can be placed into and linked in relevant articles (Irish Army, Irish Air Corps, Irish Naval Service).

PLEASE READ this talk page and justify your reasoning why this shouldn't be the case instead of unilateral changes and undoes. But remember it doesn't make any sense to have one article for Irish Naval Service rank insignia, one redirect/merge for Irish Army rank insignia (now merged into the main Irish Army article page) and one not existing entirely for the Naval Service (well, until I created it recently). Let's have some consistency for all three service branches folks. DojoIrl (talk) 03:08, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
