potentially usable photo?[edit]

I've only ever seen one photo of the man, and it's this one: [1] His face isn't visible, unfortunately, but the skirt at least is. In any case, I think it should be public domain due to its age.

Merger[edit]

I disagree, a merger would cause the loss of biographical information. This is a biographical article of an officer in the Royal Navy. Only half of the article mentions the east africa campagins - there are large sections on his early life and later life and therefore he deserves an article. The mimi and toutou page is about a book, not a person. Furthermore the east africa campaign article is about a conflict, not about a person. LordHarris 13:31, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry! You also forgot to put a merge tag on this article. You have to place a merge tag on both articles (ive just done it for this one). I agree with the merge. Liberty Ship in 1901-5?[edit]

The text states that he collided with a liberty ship apparently between 1901 & 1905. Liberty ships were not produced until 1942. I guess that this should read merchant or cargo ship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.112.52.178 (talk) 19:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foden's book uses 'liberty boat'. A liberty boat was the term for a vessel carrying sailors from ship to shore for shore leave, i.e. for a period of liberty. Foden also notes that the collision led to a death, presumably of one of the sailors in the boat. Benea (talk) 22:07, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

His Rank[edit]

Though the man was granted the acting rank of Captain during some of his time on the Lake, he was never promoted to this rank and indeed his service record explicitly notes that he was denied a bump in rank (Commander -> Captain) upon his retirement.
