Simple correction. Ft. Elliott was not "27 miles east of Indian Territory." It was 27 miles east of Oklahoma Territory. Indian Territory was the eastern half of the eventual state of Oklahoma. The western half of he eventual state of Oklahoma was Oklahoma Territory. The Texas Pan Handle State line was the western border of Oklahoma Territory where my father was born which is often confused as Indian Territory Check any competent geography of that era. ..

I believe the confusion is that in 1875 (the date cited) there was no Oklahoma Territory but only Indian Territory, established c. 1834. Oklahoma Territory was created with the Sooners and Boomers of 1889. Billy Hathorn (talk) 15:43, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
