Name[edit]

Is it Gardane or Gardanne?? Languagehat (talk) 19:05, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it's Gardane, but are his given names Claude Matthieu (as in the title), Charles-Matthieu (as in the first line), or Paul Ange Louis (as in the French Wikipedia article)?? Why is this such a mess? Languagehat (talk) 15:01, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And the Galerie historique des contemporains ou nouvelle Biographie, Vol. 5 (Wahlen, 1819), p. 77 calls him Gaspard!! Did the guy actually have a given name, or did they call him "General" from birth? Languagehat (talk) 15:16, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the record Claude-Matthieu, count Gardane (1766-1818) and Gaspard-Amédée Gardanne (1758-1807) are different persons. Both were French generals from the Napoleonic wars though. -- fdewaele, 11 August 2013.
