Photos[edit]

There should be more photos of him as just himself not protraying The Black, people may mistake that he was pure black like the stallion he protrayed in the movies, when in fact, he was not fully black for he bore a star and white legs. --Ladyducaine 06:14, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No argument there, but try finding a free image that doesn't have a copyright tag slapped on it. If you can, that would be very nice... Montanabw(talk) 21:44, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Black stallion lg 01.jpg[edit]

Image:Black stallion lg 01.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:Cass Ole (The Black Stallion).jpg[edit]

The image Image:Cass Ole (The Black Stallion).jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --06:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

public user response: The 3/4 profile image of "The Black" backed by sand is also posted to his pedigree hosted at | All Breed Pedigree Query. ABPQ is a collaborative site wherein those with knoweldge of a particular horse (usually the breeders or owners) can post the relevant information. The information is verified for accuracy by ABPQ and adjusted as needed. Since that is an "open" site and since Wiki is not-for-profit I think the picture can probably continue to be used as semi-public domain image. Fair use may or may not apply, but under the circumstances good faith does; even without knowing the exact origins of the image. Barring a challenge from the creator, Wiki use should be ok under good faith barring further developments to the contrairy.

It's an old bot message and the fair-use rationale has been provided since, so there is no need to worry. Having said that, ABPQ has taken the image from this article (I should know, I uploaded it). Since I uploaded it, the possibility has risen that it actually is not Cass Ole, but Fea Jur, as that stallion also portrayed The Black in the movie, and had a considerable part in that particular beach scene. I have been trying to establish wether it is Cass Ole or not. Even better would be to source a non-movie image, but I haven't been succesfull so far. EdokterTalk 01:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
EDok, if you get into fair use problems, see how I did the images for Khemosabi, using commercial images of the horse under fair use. If you have trouble with verifying the image (and there is an argument for using a photo of Cass Ole without the dye job on his markings!) you might be able to use a fair use image from somewhere like this: [1] . Just a thought. Montanabw(talk) 06:47, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
