Merging then renaming?[edit]

I created this article Bezistan because I believed there was no article on that topic. I did not know there were other alternative names for it. Only after I created the article I realised that Bezistan can also be called Bedesten, so I created Bedesten and redirected it to Bezistan. Then I noticed that Google Books Search on english language has much more hits for Bedesten (9.190) then for Bezistan (1.140). Finally I realized there is another alternative name for Ottoman closed marketplace which is Bedestan (5.170 hits) which already had its article.

Now there are two problems:

  1. Wrong names. Articles Bezistan and Bedestan should be renamed to Bedesten
  2. Doubled articles. Bezistan and Bedestan should be merged into Bedesten (which is now redirect)

I think that, if we want to follow the whole procedure, the best way is to:

  1. merge Bezistan into Bedestan
  2. rename Bedestan into Bedesten

Any comments?--Antidiskriminator (talk) 12:21, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what it the most used name in English.. but in any case the two articles has to be merged in one. Ggia (talk) 12:24, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'm not sure either what is the dominant usage in English, but assuming it is indeed Bedesten, I agree too that the existing articles should be merged to that target. Regarding the actual steps, give me some time and I'll get back to this page with more comments (tomorrow at the latest). GregorB (talk) 14:56, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks in advance.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 15:14, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're right, what you propose is the best way. The merge is not controversial, you can be bold and do it yourself right away. (I'd recommend following WP:MERGETEXT, though.) Regarding the subsequent move, I'd recommend the WP:RM procedure in order to get proper feedback. Hope that helps. GregorB (talk) 22:25, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
