Comment[edit]

Lots more could be said on biodiversity - but clearly no longer a stub, so promoted to "expandable" SP-KP 23:39, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers[edit]

The figures of a catchment of 91.5 square miles, and 44 times larger than the catchment of any other lake in the Lake District, don't make sense. If they were accurate then the largest catchment of another lake would be about 2.1 square miles, which is clearly wrong. At least one of these numbers must be incorrect. 91.5 square miles seems too low - an LDNP web page gives ~350 km^2 (= ~135 square miles). Elsewhere I find a figure of 231 km^2 for Windermere.

70 feet would make more sense as the maximum depth than the average; streetmap.co.uk shows a small 20m depth contour. Lavateraguy 19:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the catchment, it's 250 sq km. (Technically, it's WP:OR of me to convert myself to 96.5 sq mi but I'm assuming related articles use imperial measurements first, so am ignoring all rules.) Note that a secondary source would be preferable. -- Trevj (talk) 13:12, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name Origination?[edit]

Does anyone know where the name Bassenthwaite came from? If so, it may be a good fact to put into the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.17.252.33 (talk) 17:22, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Technically a lake"[edit]

The introductory section included the statement "It is the only body of water in the Lake District to be technically defined as a lake". There is no citation to support this rather strange assertion and it has no obvious logic in terms of geographical, geological or legal definitions of a lake. So, I have deleted it - apologies if there is a good reason for the statement, but in that case I strongly urge that an explanation or reference is added to substantiate the statement.Jeremy Young (talk) 08:55, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology[edit]

The etymology section is unclear, and uses strange formatting/language. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.106.62.209 (talk) 11:47, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The whole article needs tidying up. --Devokewater (talk) 15:19, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
