Baigs in the Hunza Valley[edit]

"The biggest concentration of baig's in pakistan is in the hunza valley. They remained the undisputed commanders of that region for centuries. About three hudred years back the baig family was wiped out by the mirs and other tribes of hunza. Only one pregnant mother was left and baig families of today in Pakistan, are the descendents of that tribe."

I recently removed this text as it didn't strike me as at all verifiable, especially the assertion that all Baigs in Pakistan come from the single surviving mother of a massacre in the Hunza valley.Adrock828 15:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is not true that Baig's in Pakistan are desendents from Hunza. Histirically it is known that Baig families had been descendents from Samarkand and Tajikistan which was Turkic area. Baig's came to Hunza valley through Kashmir after Mughals capture the area and started living there afterward.

Baig[edit]

This paragraph should be rewritten: The name Baig originates from a Turkic clan called Barlas of Mongol origin (chief tribe of the Timurids). They played a pivotal role in Turkic empires in Central Asia, Middle East (Iran) and South Asia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Torebay (talkcontribs) 11:38, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Begovic[edit]

At least from the Bosniak/Bosnian perspective the information provided is wrong. In Bosnia "Beg" is used, not Begovic. There is a family "Begovic" in Bosnia, but that is name of the family, not the title itself.

Furthermore, the list of notable Begs in Bosnia is wrong. I am going to remove the wrong names.Sirinsirine (talk) 10:29, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Begovic is a surname. Most of surnames in Bosnia and surrounding countries are obtain by adding "ovic" or "ic" to a name, title or function. There are many "beg" families (or used to be) not even containing the title "beg" in itself. Hence "Begovic" does not relate to the title itself enough.Sirinsirine (talk) 23:27, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
