Ancient Flag / Standard[edit]

Can anybody find the ancient Assyrian flag/standard which the Assyrians would carry into battle?? I think there should be an actual bronze or gold Assyrian standard from the 1st millenium BC, which they excavated somewhere. --Šarukinu 00:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wording[edit]

"indicating the blood spilled by the Assyrians prior to and during World War I"

I think you mean the red indicates the blood of Assyrians being spilled, not Assyrians spilling blood. Assyrians were the alledged victims of a geneocide, not the other way around.

8-pointed star[edit]

Since you are Assyrian, may I ask you if in your impression a majority of Assyrians feels this symbol represents them? I personally find that it looks harmonious, is unique and simple enough for flags. — Sebastian 07:23, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know this is such a tricky question because there is so much politics behind the issue. To be honest with you, no, the majority of them don't use it and they (Chaldean Assyrians, Syriac Assyrians who make up the vast majority of Assyrians) don't feel like it represents them because they feel Nestorian Assyrians created the flag without addressing them. I brought it up here because, when I saw the new proposed design for the Flag of Iraq, I liked it, but it reminded me of the Saint Patrick's cross in the Union Jack. Shamash / Utu (Sun god) star[edit]

The star on the flag is the old star symbol associated with Shamash the sun deity (also associated with the planet Saturn). I'm having trouble finding any sources which verify this, don't know how it can be anything else. Just a colorized version with the "rivers" extended further, otherwise identical. He was worshipped in the Mesopotamian region and was also known as Šamaš. He was apparently the deity who provided those mysterious leaders who showed up out of nowhere in th region with divine laws. Updating the Assyrian Flag to the official version[edit]

Hello all, I have a source specifically from the Assyrian Democratic Alliance who are using the most current Assyrian Flag.. I don't have the authorization to update the current flag located on this page, but I am requesting any sort of help in doing so.. My sources are in this link http://aua.net/index.php/about-assyrians/assyria-flag and this one as well http://www.atour.com/education/20000602b.html as you can tell the websites are up to date and both are using an updated official version of the Assyrian flag resembling the sun god Ashur in full color.. Consider Image Replacement for Historical Alignment[edit]

It is advisable to consider replacing the main image in accordance with traditional associations: a yellow hue for the circle and golden shades for the depiction of the god Ashur. This would align with historical connotations and symbolism. Diklath (talk) 00:59, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
