I would like some feedback on the article. The original article, quite frankly, did not make very much sense to me, so i just deleted it and started from the beginning. I am concerned that this information should be as an article specifically about the mine. I could not, however, find any information about the actual city that didnt concern the mine and its history. This is also the first longer article i've taken a stab at, so any feedback in general would be greatly appreciated. let me know what you think! susanbamboozlin 07:02, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You must read the spanish Almaden [1], and translate it. It has information about population. It had 16.000 in the 60 - 70´s, now it has 7000 habitants (the mines are closed now). A very usefull link for you: [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.36.49.228 (talk • contribs)

Just a brief note to say that “Almaden” doesn’t mean Metal but “Mine” in Arabic.

Price of mercury[edit]

Article currently [3] reads in part The price for mercury decreased from a peak of 571 US$ in 1965 to 121 US$ in 1976 making economic planning difficult. That's interesting, but what quantity are those prices quoted for? The comparison remains valid, assuming it's accurate! Andrewa (talk) 02:27, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

the whole truth[edit]

My addition in bold:

Due to the human toxicity of mercury and its byproducts, the mine has variously employed penal labour, slave labour, and prisoners of war over its long history. Almaden mine stopped working in 2002, due to the prohibition of mercury mining in Europe. In 2006, the mine opened to the public, who can visit the first level, 50 meters underground.
