Notability[edit]

The year 1950 is notable for LGBT rights. As noted in the "Events" section, the year 1950 is the origin of the largest gay-rights society:

  • In the Mattachine Society (founded in 1950), which was the first major gay organization in the United States, the Society’s New York chapter is founded in 1955, and will become the largest gay rights group in the U.S.[1]
