One Child Policy (Dennis Ruowei Cao / 曹偌伟 ) is a Chinese American electronic musician, record producer and DJ based in Los Angeles.[1] According to Cameron Holbrook from Mixmag, he is an artist with "a distinct knack for crafting thoughtful tracks with a vivacious dancefloor orientation." [1]

Musical career[edit]

Cao was raised by two electrical engineers brought up in China; they sparked his fascination with electronic music at a very early age. [2] His breakthrough debut, Cultural Transmissions, released in November 2017, delivered a unique take on atmospheric techno, electro, acid and outsider house. It was featured on publications such as Mixmag and Resident Advisor who called the lead single "Only Me || 孝" "a track that'll get stuck in your head along with a lot of eerie synth work."[3][1]

Soon after he released on labels such as The Black Lodge (LA) , Guangzhou Underground (Guangzhou, China), and Arca's Mutants Mixtapes Vol 1. and 2., garnering the attention of publications such as XLR8R, Pitchfork, The Fader, and Dazed Digital.[4][5][6][7]

In late 2020, he started an electronic label called Dian Nao (电脑, “electronic brain”) with his latest EP It Mirrored Me (它反映了我), which landed on Apple Music’s Editorial Techno Playlist and Magnetic Mag. [2]
