Soman, can you explain why you removed the categories "Arab nationalism" and "Ethnic nationalism" from this category? Palestinian nationalism is both a type of Arab nationalism and a type of Ethnic nationalism. Is it your claim that Palestinians are not an ethnicity? Jayjg (talk) 14:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1) Arab nationalism is a different concept. See for example the article on Palestinian nationalism: "...to form a nationalist movement quite particular and separate from the pan-Arab trend that was gaining strength in the Arab world..." Arab nationalists seek the unification of the Arab world into a single unit, Palestinian nationalists seek the creation of an independent Palestine. These goals are not necessarily the same. Arafat's early political legacy was to 'palestinianize' the Palestine question, to construct a Palestinian identity separate from general Arabic identity.
2) Regarding 'Ethnic nationalism' i guess that this was the wrong end to tackle the issue. Perhaps I'll put a cfd on the parent category instead. I find it a bit difficult to separate ethnic nationalisms from non-ethnic ones. Zionism, as I'm sure you are aware, poses some intricate questions of whether it should be regarded as political, ethnic or religious nationalism. There are other cases as well, where the labelling 'ethnic nationalism' can be somewhat misleading.
