When I created a discusssion page and pasted the content into the summary, I got

Remember the dot, what do you think of merging the history of User:Remember the dot/Long edit summary.js on MediaWiki:Gadget-LongEditSummaries.js, since this gadget was created with an exact copy of your subpage? Helder.wiki 19:37, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined for the same reason as below. —Remember the dot (talk) 04:47, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Remember the dot, could you update this gadget with these changes? Helder.wiki 19:49, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: What would be the point? The default max length of the edit summary was raised from ~200 bytes to 250 bytes in February 2011 (MediaWiki 1.17), rendering the gadget "Allow up to 50 more characters in each of your edit summaries. Works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera." ineffective; but it took over six months before it was finally removed from the gadget list in preferences. Since then, the limit has again been raised from 250 to 255 bytes. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:23, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually surprised that this page hasn't been deleted already. Is there some reason we're keeping it around? —Remember the dot (talk) 04:47, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I had a vague memory that it no longer worked, but since there are still a few users who import these old scripts, I thought it would be better to at least make them not to use deprecated methods... So I updated the fork which is at pt:MediaWiki:Gadget-sumariomaior.js and then suggested the same updates here because I know it is not funny at all to keep many forks of "global" gadgets synced until mw:Gadgets 2.0 is available...
Anyway, for future reference, now that you confirmed it really doesn't work anymore, I searched the archives and found these:
Maybe add a comment to the script pointing out why it was removed or to a discussion about that? Helder.wiki 18:55, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The second of your four bullets indicates that it was Krinkle (talk · contribs) who wished the scripts be retained. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:08, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
