| Description |
English: Song Mao located approximately half way between Phan Rang and Phan Thiet. B Company, 87th Engineer Battalion has been involved in upgrading this airfield from CV2 to a C-130 capability. The runway as shown here has a laterite surface treated with asphalt cutback but preparations are being made for the placing of M8A1 matting. Also being constructed here on the left hand side of the runway is a forward support area for helicopters which will feature six Chinook pads in the background and 87 AG1B pads in the center portion of the photograph. A forward supply area for Classes I, III, and V will be constructed in the right hand side of the photograph. The Class III area located in the upper right hand corner of the photograph has been completed. Work on this airfield and support area began on 8 December. |
