English: Jahaz Mahal located in Mehrauli, New Delhi,India. A water-body called 'Hauz-i-Shams' used to surround the structure once. A miserable puddle of a lake still exists at the back of this monument. The name 'Jahaz Mahal' means 'Ship Palace' in Farsi. 'Jahaz'(ship) is of course an allusion to how the structure would have looked with respect to the surrounding lake.
You may notice the remnants of blue tile-work. These pieces of glazed pottery bear testament to the Indo-Persian cultural exchange that took place during medieval times. A number of monuments in Delhi have such remnants of their past glories clinging tenaciously to their present forms.
